Help needed - New DSG gearbox for 2016 Caravelle

Long time lurker, but unfortunately its time for a post. Please be kind :)

3 years ago I bought a dud of a Caravelle. Stunning looking, top spec, drove well but really has been a money pit. New engine after a year (parts covered by VW) and now im being told it needs a new gearbox (90k on clock)

Last week, all of a sudden the gears all stopped working, and a loud vibrating grinding noise was present. Needed a recovery to my local garage JBC van centre Worthing. Van has been well looked after and serviced by JBC as it should whilst I've had it.

JBC cant diagnose the issue exactly as they have said it sounds like something has come apart inside the gearbox, and is likely to mean a new gearbox is needed. Cost of which is £8,000, and is on back order so no idea when it could be done. I'm in no rush to hand over £8k, and want to shop around for whether there are any other specialists that I can get in touch with for such a repair.

So my question to the forum. Can anyone recommend a company in the south that are specialists in T6 DSG gearbox replacements?

Thanks in advance.

On a 2016 year van I'd be taking it to a local place and putting a second hand gearbox in.

Ie one from a smashed up write off.

Don't think it warrants a 8k new box from VW.

...

The other option is a gearbox rebuild.... A specialist job and you will still need to get the box out and back in.

What we thinking for a second hand box?.. £600-£1600?

Thanks. More than happy to spend as little as possible so a second hand box solution sounds ideal!

Have they removed the offside driveshaft and checked the splines inside the gearbox? The symptoms sound exactly like this increasingly common failure.
If so, it will need a rebuild to replace the differential side gear, and a new driveshaft. A LOT cheaper than a new box, and getting a second hand one is a gamble.
The manual gearbox driveshaft failures were almost inevitable, but DSG's are failing too.

Just booked it in with the automaticgearboxcentre.co.uk They literally just said its likely to be all the things you mentioned and cost is around £2.4k. Thanks for responding :)

Might be a bit late, I’ve not used these guys but was impressed with their reviews. They do DSG repairs. I don’t need one but I’ve literally today just enquired as I want my driveshaft checked for the reasons mentioned in some earlier replies
