I always look at this as cost vs risk. In the last 10ish years I have had many road trips in different vehicles of varying age and mileage. Around 270 days driving abroad and had one puncture (which happened off road) and one clutch issue - would the AA cover over 10 years / multiple trips have cost more than works carried out? Peace of mind I guess for some is worth paying for and having cover.
