Has Anyone Fitted The Cate Motorbike Carrier/rack?

So here is the Cate Carrier fitted. It’s just the basic frame at the moment, with none of the attachments to carry anything though, of course, any load up to 250kg can be tied down on it.

Hi mate, these look great. I've been trying to find the same for my T32 4Motion - all the guides I find online state the maximum weight the chassis itself can take is 150kg total. What's the work around this? My bike alone is 200kg, the racks I've found around 100kg which all go over the rated limit of weight I can hang off the back of the VW but I still see them around so I know it's possible!

I placed my faith in the TÜV certification for up to 250kg. The 2 bikes I carry are both about 180kg (Triumph 400 and Honda 650 Bros).

Also looking for a solution, but do these all require a fixed towbar? Mine is a removable swan neck and from what I have seen, there isn’t a solution that works with one.. Is that correct? My backup plan is a trailer but for space reasons would prefer something like the Cate. Not yet decided on the bike.. I have a BMW GS at the moment, but will be getting something smaller and dual sport for greenlaning and off road. Possible a KTM 390 enduro r which is about 150KG.

Cheers

You can buy the adaptor brackets to go with or without a tow bar, so a tow bar is not necessary at all. I accidentally ordered the ones to go with a tow bar, and when I realised my mistake, I ordered (& fitted) a tow bar as well (which has actually turned out to be useful for carrying bicycles) even though I was not intending to get one.
However, I can't tell what the difference might be? The adaptor plates mount outside the tow bar brackets, so they might be that thickness further apart I suppose. But that difference shouldn't affect the overall system.
To fit the brackets to mine, I had to cut the welded-on nuts off the tow bar mount (the part that fits to the chassis rails). This is because the Cate brackets are themselves threaded and fit flush on the outside of the tow bar mounts. I would imagine that this aspect would be similar for a removable swan neck tow bar.

Ah ok thanks. Do you have standard bumper? I have the LV-R so not sure how that might impact it. How easy is it to remove when not in use?

I have a standard bumper. It requires two holes to be cut into the bumper for the main mounts, then support bars are pinned below. It might be an issue if the LV-R bumper is a lot lower?

It is easy enough to remove, but with the checker plate and wheel channel on, it is quite heavy for one person.IMG_3525.webp

Hmm probably not the solution for me as lvr is lower. I like the look of the easy lift, but towtrust are advising against it. I think because of the short term vertical load when bike is being loaded. Once it’s on the wheels take the load. Might be better to just use a trailer but I like how compact and quick to assemble the easy lift solution is.
