Hi Everyone!

I was looking for information about how to carry bikes with me on my T6, ofcourse I started with the Search function and there is A LOT of information in all the different topics.
I am dutch, therefor apologies for the grammar which might be incorrect. Feel free to point it out.

Proposal;
Can we create a 'one big topic' with the build-up of a FAQ and maybe a list of racks which are compatible, saying; "The Tailgate / barndoors, can still open"
@administrators, is this allowed? Beneficial?

Tailgate Racks
>Working solutions for racks mounted on the tailgate (to be added)>
  1. Fiamma
    1. ...
  2. Thule
    1. ...
  3. Which heavy duty tailgate shocks can be bought?
    1. ...

Towbar Carriers
Adding Open and Closed examples (as proof)

FAQ
  1. What do I need to take into account when loading bikes on my tailgate rack?
    1. Weight (max 60, depending on rack)
    2. There are reports of Dents in the tailgate when loading?
    3. When loading more than X bikes, it is adviced to strenghten the arms (heavy load)
  2. Can the Tailgate be opened with bikes (MTB? Wide handlebars)?
    1. Thule VeloSpace XT 3 Or Atera STRADA DL 3 - bike rack
  3. How about Ebikes on a tailgate rack?
    1. VW tailgate bike rack -eMTB?
  4. What is better when using Enduro/larger MTB's?
    1. Thule VeloSpace XT 3 Or Atera STRADA DL 3 - bike rack

What do I ask you:
  1. 1 picture works better than 1000 opinions, please post pictures of your setups (open/closed), brands and maybe which towbar you have. We can use these pictures as "proven" solutions.
  2. Ofcourse, this topic is also for questions, the answers we can list in the FAQ
  3. If you have reference topics, please post them, so we can list them here aswell.
  4. If you see a topic/question related to this topic, maybe link it to this topic?

Was looking for a bike carrier for 3 bikes, but came across this one (for 2 though), but i have quite some experience with this carrier borrowing it from my sister and it is a very good carrier and the best thing is , you can easily fold it to quite a small package.

I thought it didnt work with the tailgate, but it seems it does.

Works with fully 29" e-mbts

Atera Genio Pro Advanced

Okay, this one fits as well, not as expensive as a Thule variant though and looks very good!!

Proof:

Downside:
3rd rail can only take 17kilo, but in the setup of 2 embts and 1 regular would be fine. Unsure if it can open with s 3rd rail + mtb.

Another option, sliding mechanism makes this one unique, especially for who owns barndoors or doesnt use MTB with larger bars.

It appears that atleast a VW t4 tailgate can be opened, but with wider handlebars you cannot. You have to turn them. No proof on a T6 of T5 yet.

Also seems to be dependent on which towbar you have, this option seems to be tricky but maybe worthwhile to check for some of you

Has anyone tried a Uebler i21Z?

I have a T6 with barndoors. Can you open them with the Uebler i21Z fitted with bikes on?

According to this website, it should:

Although, i do not know al the difference between the types, but as far as i understood, it is important to have the 90° variant.

I do like the Uebler i21, light and packs up easily.

Ps. I just settled on the Atera Genio Advanced, due it its price, and possibility to extend with 3rd . I got it in today, will try it tomorrow. Bought it new for 649,-

Did another search, official specifications say it does:

Take a look at the "info" icon:

But no guarantees, due to different setups/towbars etc

Can you please confirm that your barndoors will open with the rack in place.

I have barn doors.

The Atera Strada DL3 (sliding one) does work but this model isn't suitable for e-bikes and as its a bit of an older design not always suitable for modern long mopuntain bikes, also spacing between bikes is tight and will need padding to stop rubbing if you have boost hubs on your bikes.

Thule Easyfold will not work.

Atera Genio will with a caveat....Use the adapter/extender so that it folds the maximum ammount, put a 50mm spacer block between the flange and towball, mount the tow ball on the lowest 2 holes of the flange - barn doors will open HOWEVER must be on perfect level ground as has to fold perfectly flat and wide handlebars can foul the ground.

In my opinion, for barn doors with modern e-mtbs either accept you have to take the rack off to access the doors or look at one of those slide away style as above or a swing out like the Memo Van swing.

If anyone has used the Memo or those sliding ones above I'd be interested to hear how it goes.

I wonder what the weight would be... Havent looking for any specs yet. Share them if you have them i would say :)

Strada Evo RV looks like the perfect solution for a T6 with tow bar and barn doors. I’ve asked when it’s going to be available. Waiting on a reply.

Hi all,

After using the Atera Genio Pro for a a while with full suspension eMBTs I can not recommended it unless you have smaller bikes due the amount of rails between the bikes. Also, the 3rd rail is nog convenient for a 3rd MTB.

It clears the tailgate easily, thats for sure so 100% compatible with the T6.

This review sums it up really well for me:

I most likely can't sell it for a good amount of the price i bought it for..otherwise i would look for another.

My 2 cents and advice :)

@peter1987t - I believe you have just discovered the holy grail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be buying as soon as available!!
Seems to be available now.

Buy an LWB Caravelle (ahem, mine will be up for sale soon) and sleep in a full length double bed with your bike(s) securely stored across the rear of the front seats. Room for luggage, bike kit, caravelle table, etc etc.

Seems to be available now.

I've bought one of these so will see what its like. I'll perhaps post my thoughts once it's been delivered and tested.
