Fuel Additives

Yes DXX - I agree. But it wasn't a silver bullet. It just changes some pollutants for others and the output is not necessarily less toxic with one or the other. Just different.
Besides, in all the studies, different engines emit different amounts of crap with different fuels depending on different temperatures and various other factors like altitude, speed, length of trips, etc etc.
Too many variables to say one is 'better' than the other.

Brazil uses up to 25% ethanol gasoline but also have massive offshore oil reserves. Ethanol fuels is well accepted and normal there.
But it's not a "drop-in" solution. Most engines are turned, or more accurately de-tuned, for the market there.

People have been trying to develop eco or synthetic fuels since the 1930s, and in that time no one has discovered process for doing so that comes remotely close to the cost of dino pump fuel.

The relatively small percentages of bio derived (rather than bio fuel, which it is not) additives such as ethanol is about as far as it is ever likely to go else it won't be financially viable.
WWII The Germans where manufacturing it to compensate for the drop in oil supplies to support the war industry.

Doesn't Mad Ed need all our farmland to cover in his Chinese slave labour produced solar panels?
Its a strange one, shareholders and major stake holders have forced manufacturers for many years close down factories in the Western World including here to shift the production goods and produce to other countries. People seamed to be happy except for the displaced workers. We get cheaper good better manufactured. Products are evolved at a faster rate and the manufacturing base shrinks further major stake holders become ever richer while unemployment sores. Suddenly like switch some these countries become the enemy we all of a sudden find unsavoury practices which are highlighted. Nothing is new and some countries also escape the same scrutiny for some reason. Our own country has prospered by slavery and is still profiting from it. I watched a program only last night about tea production. It was a real eye opener. I was actually looking for a program with instant gratification and not something that might stretch ones mind or ponder over difficult question but as I paused on the already started program became engrossed. I used to enjoy tea but since COVID have shifted over to coffee, ditched flavoursome Wine Society choices and storage and instead just drink cheep whiskey with ginger wine instead I have never bought the tea in question it is one of the most popular cheap brands sold in our country. the manufacturer has lied about the conditions that its workers struggle with and the recompense payed to them while at the same time this company also employs child labour. People only receive just enough money to put food on their table. It is a very complicated and evolved system. One might thin a solution is just to ban it or impose sanctions, that is what we do to countries our governments detest. In fact doing that would make the plight of these people basically unsustainable, they would simply starve to death. The child workers often very young indeed are all orphaned. Mostly they are the oldest children from families that have lost one or both parent and need the work just to survive and feed their siblings or infirm single remaining parent. A knee-jerk solution would simply be a death sentence for those children and the adults working for our nations favourite national beverage and its most popular brand. so simply not buying or manipulating the system not to employ child slave labour would be the wrong solution , in fact no solution a tall. In effect we have xeported missery across the globe for cheap products while at the same time creating mass unemployment in our own countries, the origonal employees now unemployed are systematicaly blamed for the sate of the country and for claiming benefits when their is no other solion on the cards for them. So fingerpointing at specific countries like China or Russia for that matter is or even a recently appointed politisian is hypercritical and politicaly contorted.

If the masses wher encoraged to be more aware and educated in all things that affect our lives including Polotics and polotics and the lives and relationships we have with others including those we exploite for our own pleasure then the world might become a better place hopefuly. Instead we are manipulated by our polotisions far too easily because of our mass colective ignorance.

Very insightful KoB.
Yes - there is no easy solution. I could go into it further with you but it is a neverending circular debate. Even if we agreed on everything - we'd just need to swallow another case of vodka to forget. However, that too probably has a certain amount of dodgy practices in their manufacturing/transport etc.

People (us) forget that people (them) are exactly the same as you and me.

You know when I write, i constantly correct spelling mistakes. Partially the are highlighted by a spell checker and some words just do not look correct. I read what I have written a little at a time and publish at the end. Occasionally I read what I have written at a slightly latter time but before the time cut off. Oh that is not what I meant it should say this word or that. I have e few problems dyslexia, typing speed typos, and "spell checkers". Some time after I have written a may read one of my texts that I may have laboured over believing all is correctly written and spelt. Occasionally I just wonder what monkey wrote that what language have I used, word merged misspelt words that mean something else all together. Sometimes I read a fault I may spell the same word different on the same post or on different posts sometimes I struggle with correcting a single word I may the experimentally spell it all sorts of different ways , removing letter putting others in and the I may change the whole word out of sheer frustration. On another occasion I will just write that word and it is fine and accepted "what" The spell checker only helps to the extent that it might actually understand the word that I may have thought it was at other times it spell out a selection all way off. then I publish only to see strange words and meanings. Like everyone I may get a thumb up on occasion or a laugh but I do not know sometimes if they are laughing with me or at my strange monkey language, an insult to monkeys I am sure none where injured by the way. Sometimes it may be because I have unwittingly kit the wrong key or the wrong order for that word or when typing quickly for me press too softly on a key and so the word is misspelt and the incorrect to something entirely different than intended. It is always worse when I sit back and think that was OK.

On some forum one may have an endless time to correct or delete even entire posts. I remember answering one poor chap, I took the gist of what he said and answered in a familiar or slightly jocular way only to read the post a while later and he had also said something very, very sad and I had missed it. Too late to change or strike off I posted a PM to a moderator to remove or change a particular part of the text but they could not unfortunate. I wrote an apology. :(🥲

There are very few forums that I go on.
As much as I don't like 'moderation', unfortunately we need 'moderators' and this and 2 or 3 other (dare I say - non-vehicle) sites are the only ones that I think are moderated well and have a good variety of ok people on it. We don't all have to agree with eachother - just disagree in a non-personal way and all is good and get on with life.
In relation to your post - if you have made the odd mistake - don't worry. No one is laughing at you or about you.
We all have our strong and weak points.
Relax.
Enjoy.

No NO not complaining or worrying about being laughed at I am a northerner and tend to be self depreciating! Just saying possibly why I write the way that I do and as I go along wonder why something may have been taken one way or an other. I am very long winded in many posts, the skills of explains myself in few words is beyond me and that I tend sometimes to think as to weather I may be confusing especially as when I read back over something at a much latter date I can see spelling mistakes and weird phrases and just saying how they may have got their. Kind of you to be so kind thank you Whodat. It just took me 4 attempts to write the word "weird" as the spell checker did not recognise any of my efforts strangely on an other occasion I would just get it right first time and then stuff up some other usually small insignificant word You should have seen me write on German Forum. That really did cause some hilarity because the translator engine changed things over and phrases and sentences made all sorts of meanings and they really did laugh and occasionally would rewrite in English what I had said in German and the I laughed too. Then they eventually just said we all speak English and when you are on or involved we will all talk in English and if you come across something that you do not understand just ask and someone will explain and translate for you it for you, its no bother. That was really kind. On one occasion someone from a neighbouring country complained about me and that they should all talk in his language also in that case, they all ganged up on him saying but people in your country speak in German frequently anyway as you do and any way he is English and we all know that most of them have no other language other than English so what is the problem if we all speak English saying that he spoke English also he just likes to make a fuss. So many posts where conducted in English especially those that they new that I may take an interest in. Their command of English was usually better than mine anyway very expressive and exact. So I ditched the translator engine except for some far older posts. A family even came over to Wales stayed for while and I took them off roading or green laning each in our own vehicle and occasionally swapping over when travelling off road. Loads of deep river crossings and wild country beautiful.

Thank you Whodat for being thoughtful! :)
