Fridge auto switch from 12v to 230v power source

Hi,

I wondered if there was a safe way to fit some kind of relay to a fridge (Dometic CRX50) that automatically switches the power from 12v to 230v for the fridge when on hookup.

Its easy enough to run both the 12v cable and the 230v cable to the fridge but I need the missing piece please.

has anyone else done this? Flawed idea? Dangerous?

feedback please

thanks

The moment we connect up to EHU, our Victron leisure battery charger kicks in, and provides 12v power to all the electrical items in the van, including the fridge. This is way simpler than using a switch as you describe.
What 12v power supply do you have when on EHU ?

As above, normally your fridge runs off the leisure battery 12v and when you plug into 240v , it still runs off 12v but your ehu is charging the leisure battery via a battery charger.

Hi,

You’re right, the mains charger I have will power the leisure batt to power the fridge but I was trying to remove the leisure batt drain and go direct.

just curious.

thanks

As long as your charger/power supply is up to the job then there is no drain on the leisure battery.
