Engine Oil Help Please?

Hi all, need to change my engine oil.

Not sure whether to put 0/30 in it now its colder or stick with 5/30.
I'm assuming you all run fully synthetic?

I've got a 2019 Transit which runs 0/30 so was planning to put that in the Transporter as I already have some.
But that saying, for how many miles I intend to do over the winter I don't know if its worth it.

Do many of you switch through out the year?

Also wondered what the cambelt change mileage is?
I done my Transit at 40,000 as have heard some horror stories (although that is a wetbelt).
Am hoping it's just a toothed belt and waterpump job? My transit was nearly £1,500!!!!

Many thanks

My van 2022 specifies 0/30 *probably to meet emmissions) but earleir VWs specify 5/30.
The main thing to also consider is that it meets the VW 504 507 specification, which is likely different to the Ford oil specification.

VW are on record as stating the spec, ie 504, 507, etc, is the determining factor rather than the grade, which is somewhat contradictory to the sticker on the slam panel!

Like timing belt intervals, VW don't seem able to make up their mind.

If yours is running happily on 5w30 (as does mine) theres no real reason to change. The difference in cold performance between 5w and 0w is tiny, and as 5w is good down to around -30 Celsius theres no technical benefit in our climate.

0w behaves at -40 the same as 5w does at -30, which is nice if you live well above the Arctic circle but irrelevant in the UK. Having said that, if you have a load of 0w on the shelf already you may as well use it if it meets 504/507.

Fully synthetic is a given - both VW 504 and 507 specs are fully synthetic.

Thank you very much both, I really appreciate your input. It generally doesn't get cold enough here to be a factor, and I don't think sticking with 5/30w would make any difference cranking over from cold.

Much Love x
