The van gods detected that it's been a couple years since a plonked a few thousand on engine repairs... the DMF is rattling like hell... it's time.

TPS quotes £1017.83 (incl VAT) for the parts, which matches what I'm told by my local VW specialist and a VW stealer.

Contacted Darkside Developements. They have determined that the VW OEM part is this exact part. I'm told they tracked down part numbers and sourced a supplier. This is the kit they fit. The part is sub £500.

Easy £500 savings, even after shipping, and my local VW specialist is happy to fit the supplied part. I'm getting consistent quotes of £1000 for labour (w/ VAT) from independent garages, or £1500 from VW.

Is this an obvious decision? I'm looking at £1500 instead of £2000.

What does the T6Forum brain trust have to say about this?

Back in 2019 I paid around £300 for the same Sachs DMF for my 2017 T6 204 with DSG, as it was causing a shake, diddnt replace the clutch pack as the gearbox specialist said it wasn’t needed.
I think I paid £800 all in for the DMF, it’s a little hard to tell as I have the garage go a complete nose to tail fluid change, it felt like a different van when i got it back.

It was actually 2020 as it had just run out of warranty, 3 years and it just clocked 100k miles.
Either way, no problems at all, it’s been good as gold, I ordered mine off auto doc, it was by far the cheapest place.

Very glad to hear! I’m just past 150k miles, so maybe I should consider myself lucky to have made it this far.

You must have done a lot of motorway miles, DMF’s get hammered chugging around town at low revs.
Mine spent the first 80k miles on motorways sat at 2k RPM

Yea, I think the first owner (first 100k miles) was running long journeys. And now that I've converted it to a camper, it's not a daily driver, but mostly for longer trips.

The Autodoc tip is a good one. Same parts as sold by Darkside for about £20 less. I've already purchased from Darkside. No regrets giving them my business and paying a tiny amount more - their customer service has been incredibly helpful.
