All In Extended Warranty and DMF

Hi all,

I’ve got a 2019 T6 102 Startline that was fully converted to camper shortly after I purchased the van in Jul 2022. Van has covered just under 30k miles and has recently developed pronounced juddering in 1st and reverse gears.

Fortunately I took “All in” cover from my local VW main dealer in Nov 2022 and have just had major service done under this plan last week.

Whilst the van was in for service, I mentioned the judder issue and was advised by a master tech that they are fairly confident this will be due to a dual mass flywheel issue.

Here’s the dilemma.. I’m told, in order for them to diagnose the issue they need to strip the gearbox down and whilst they are very confident it will be a mechanical fault and covered under the extended warranty, they need me to authorise £575+VAT for 5-6hrs of diagnosis costs in case VW don’t approve the works.

I’ve disputed this risk with the dealer, naturally I don’t agree with this approach of the costs falling squarely with me if it’s deemed non-warrantable, however to this point I seem to be at loggerheads with no other option.

In fairness to the dealer they have tried to reassure and have also said in the unlikely event it is non warrantable they will ask for VW goodwill contribution however the thought of a £700 ish bill is somewhat unpalatable.

Has anyone had experience of this with main dealer? Any general advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Jordan

My DMF needed replacing just few weeks ago, they said the same to me.
They need to do the labour and look at the flywheel.
But my van had the same issues As yours, and after reading similar stories on here and online unauthorised them to look.
all labour and DMF parts were covered under warranty.
Only thing I paid for was a new clutch . £408.

Thanks for your reply, good news that you got sorted! I think I will authorise them to take a look too as I can’t put up with the juddering. Thanks again

It’s a known issue the juddering, and there’s many on here had the same issue.
Hopefully you get yours sorted like I did.

Mine was done last month under the same warranty. My dealer, Coventry, told me that it was the DMF without any diagnosis and just got on with it. They never even mentioned any diagnostic charge. they called the insurance BEFORE they stripped it down, told them of the issue & it was authorised by VW over the phone. Tell them to do one or just change dealer.

BTW you do NOT have to use a VW dealer on my extended warranty. i choose to do so cos I am happy with them.

Thanks Mick, good to know.

I’ll check on the works being done elsewhere. Was your extended warranty part of the “All In” deal.. (2 service, 2 yr roadside, 2 MOT and 2 year warranty) ?

Mick do you have any info on how to not use a dealer for all in? Do you have to use them for the diagnosis but can go elsewhere for the repair or can you use an independent for the diagnosis as well? I also think my DMF is on the way out but on its most recent trip to a VW dealer, I was charged the 110 plus vat investigation fee and sent on my merry way to wait for the fault to develop. The van wasn't even test driven so I currently have a complaint with vw on the go. Hence I'm keen to fire it to an independent for diagnosis but I want to use all in.

How to make a Warranty claim (UK)
Contact your nearest Volkswagen Retailer or Volkswagen Authorised Repairer and advise them that your vehicle is protected by All-in Warranty. They will manage the claims process on your behalf.

My last warranty (3rd party purchased with the van) allowed me to use any VAT registered mechanic but I think for the VW warranty you must use an authorised repairer.
I can find loads of authorised body shops nearby but the only repairers I can find are the van centers in Manchester and Liverpool which are both 20 miles+ away and are both dealers.

If I could use a mechanic that was closer I'd jump on the VW warranty today.

Read your insurance document which i don't have to hand. It recommends you use an approved VW dealer/franchise:it is not compulsory. Any VW specialist generally knows exactly how to deal with this.

Not sure that is correct. there is a couple of discussions on the forum around this. VWFS don’t like it but the wording on the policy is quite straightforward.

Found it. This the VW extended warranty from VWFS

Interesting,
In your picture the section above also mentions servicing at a VAT registered repairer, PREFERABLY a dealer.
So this seems to be similar to the 3rd party warranty I had in so much as you pay for the work yourself if not an approved repairer then claim back the cost via the VW all in one plan.

Would love to hear from any forum members that have actually done a claim like this.
