so what do i think. . ?

its a FORD through and through, there is NO VW in this van from what i can see.

its a Ford Transit with a VW badges

it looks good from the outside, but as soon as you look behind the outer gloss its a cheap van made to a Low price.

the difference in price on the Ford version and VW version has nothing to do with quality, just more gadgets for the higher VW cost.

Ford engine & running gear

Ford tinny Body,

i wont be in any hurry to go get one.

the T6/T6.1 is where im at . . and even then id say the T6.1 is made cheaper than the T6. . . but has many nice features that make it a worthy upgrade over the T6.

The T5/T5.1 is unfortunatly not in the running anymore with its Euro5 Engine that you cant drive anywhere near citys. (but was a better quality buld quality over the T6 IMHO)

likes:
overall look of the van,
roof rack/bar.bolt options
keyless start - though a potential security risk
its got CC but not ACC?
Lane departure assist - but i had to turn it off.
road speed detection
loads of airbags
comfy seat, but doesn't hold you when going round roundabouts.
easy to drive,
very good visibility,
great blind spot mirrors
digital dash
quick fill fuel cap
revers camera on the big screen.
VW MFSW

dislike's:
No protective body under trays
no dash under panels
tinny thin bendy side panels
comfy seat, but doesnt hold you when going round rounaablets.
cant reast your arm on the door, so you have to use the seat arm rest, but whe the seat is all the way back your elbows fall off the armrests.
armrests too short.
ford engine, that take green coolant
lots of road noise when on A roads.
dont happy with the look of the rear wishbones that look like bananas hanging down.

conclusion:
its a ford transit - thats it.
it looks good from outside, but dont look under the skin if you are used to VAG quality as it just screams "price cutting"
anything that you cant see - has been omitted for getting the price down.
its got nice gadgets.
its obviously the future for the Transporter for now, but for how long? - they next 10yr build cycle at least id assume.
VW are trying to sell you a VW, but its not. . . its a Ford with some VW cosmetic bits.

my next VW Transporter will be a T6.1 - for the meantime anyway.

The van is books back in with a main dealer next week to look at this AdBlue and spring problem...

But I've just noticed yesterday and again this morning there seems to be some kind of exhaust leak from the engine bay area.

I can't smell it, but I can hear it.

It's a low down grumble exhaust noise, the kind of sound you would expect to be coming from after the back boxes.

I've heard similar on a previous van where the mid box become disconnected....

But this sound is coming from the engine bay area.

The van is a bit low to get right underneath at the minute to look with my own eyes, has the exhaust and turbo is at the rear of the engine.

So I need to wait for a high curb.

But I will mention it to the dealership when the van gets booked in.

It's worth pointing out that there is no change in power etc, or any dashboard lights.

So it's not a intercooler hose popped off or anything like that...

I'll see if I can get a video clip of the sound.
this is now sorted. . .

it was more of an induction noise.

so with the bonnet open and someone blipping the throttle, you could clearly hear the sound was coming from the top front left of the engine bay.

it was the airbox inlet pipe that come from the front drill,

it had come away from the air filter box. - and just needed clipping back on.

it was probably loose from when the done all the engine works bore.

quick fix.

Interesting walk through...

Regardless of a lot of other factors/passions/opinions it does seem a bit disappointing that the only VW bit is the dashboard and electronics.

The VW electronics are not terrible, but I don't think I'd pay a premium over the Ford ones for it. And those of us owning a 6.1, which is to some extent a 6 with the VW car dash electronics grafted in, know that even then the van isn't making a lot of what the electronics are capable of in when in the car platforms so I doubt it will be much better then grafted into a shared platform.

That's another thing.... It's a Ford dash and clocks.

They even have the Ford Blue & white clocks and gauges colour scheme, and it's a digital dash! They haven't even made that look VW.

Well I've had it for four days and done 1500miles in it.

I defo don't like it it.

The road noise was awful.

The cab was very high to get in and out.

The is nowhere to mount your phone.

The USB chargers are ok, 15w.

The infotainment system was annoying as it didn't make logical scene where to get to what setting.... I look buttons for features.... Not a 10 deep menu to turn off the blowers.

The lane drift thing was annoying...it didn't like my driving and kept saying I was tired and needed a break.

The stop start is ruthless, very annoying.

****

The main things I did like....

The limiter and CC.
The auto speed sign recognition.
The EPB electric handbrake.
The keyless start.
The three button remote, separatee button for rear.
Very easy to drive.
The rear view camera.
The all around PDC.

**"

I'm still not interested in buying one. .... At this stage.

And when I got my van back last night. Ah, what a pleasure.....100% different. Even with 90k on it I way prefers the drive....the lack of road noise and rumble was the first thing I noticed.

-- Adblue - feed pipe leak --

The van is back from VW, apparently the AB leak is the feed pipe?

all done under ALL-IN.

looks like this will be that last time this van goes into VW?

now the All-In has run out (6yrs/100k miles at start) im on me own.

Time to look for a decent VW Indy.

health check video - its nice to see that the tech is using the panel protector at the front of the van

now just waiting for some paperwork detailing what's been done.

I’m in the same boat, all in runs out this month. Happy to use Bognor Motors but it’s a bit of a drive from South London so if you do find a good Indy your way can you post details, I need my Egr replaced and Essex is an easier option distance wise

@BognorMotors is an obvious choice being forum trade members,

The Van is in the garage for its 10k engine service.

The van is now on 95k, and second service on the new engine which now has 10k miles on it....ill now consider this engine bedded in. (4-8k miles IMO)

We had a new CXEB engine at 85k.

So I'll now move over to regular 10k service intervals.

£129 at VW.

For oil, filter, health check and a stamp in the logbook.

They call it the Essentials Service - £129 at VWCV.

Had the Bus done last week at the same place.

Plus, while the engine has its two year warranty I'm happy to let VW service it to negate any warranty snottyness.

And for £129 for oil, filter, check over and stamp......it's a no brainer... For me at least.

I've asked them to check if the injectors and glow plugs were new or old one refitted from the previous engine....

As I've had some slow starts when it's been cold.

And asked them to check the EGR, as I'm seeing signs of a very slow. Coolant loss? Most likely internal?.

The previous engine had a new EGR at 35k as it was blocked. And now that EGR has done another 50k . . . . And there is a note that the EGR efficiency is low.

It's starting to look like I'm going to need another EGR put on it?

....

Watch this space.

For injectors - what about comparing adaption map of the previous engine with the map of the new engine?
Sure, can you help me with that?

what do you need?

drop the guide here and ill get you the Block Map or whatever you need?

How-to create an adaptation map file:

[VCDS]
[Applications]
[Controller Channel Map]
- Single Controller Address = 01
- Login or security access code: Leave blank
- Function: Adaptations
- Output: CSV file
[Go]

The result CSV file is saved into dircetory C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs

1763500988100.webp

In the file are injector adaptation/calibration values - which highly unlikely are the same for different injectors.

Hopefully you have the map also from the old engine ;)

The fan blower resistor pack has just given up.... Again.

I had it replace under warranty about year 3.

Now we year 6 and 96000miles.

Symptoms: no fan blower on speeds 1,2,3 but 4 works ok.

I think I have a 3rd party one at home, but I'll call TPS later for a price.
