Back on the engine front. . .

just before the Euro Trip to France. . . we had a MIL engine lights on.

i done a quick scan with Carista - and it showed GLOW PLUG 4 faulty.

i was worried about that stopping the REGS, but thats not the case.

the regens still run - which was confirmed with VAG DPF app.

so booked the van in to have them done.

i decided on having the whole set done in one go.

the mechanic said just replace the faulty one . . . but my mechanic head said do them all.

it cost £350 for the full set swap at a local Indy.

these are what come out. . .

three normal BOSCH ones and the fancy -pressure sensor one.

1763824743827.webp

and these were the ones that went.

1763824754014.webp1763824764269.webp1763824801879.webp

the one with the Tipex on is the faulty one.

the mechanic said the other other one are working fine and ok sell on.

so if anyone wants a cheap set of 3x Glow plugs including the pressure sensor. - I've got some.

No, no mains input to the smart inverter range.

So no transfer switch.

That's only on the multiplus range, they have mains in, and a internal charger....

We camp 99.9% of the time off grid, without hookup. So decided I didn't need to spend the extra money on the multiplus. And didn't need the internal charger

*****
I've kept my setup simple, no external mains in, no transfer switches, no pe Earth switching.

Just an inverter of the batterys that runs everything.

Then a hot pluggable 50A mains charger that I can drop in the floor well if needed.

Vandaman, done the same ... Simpler, cheaper set up and no transfer switches needed.

.

If we get EHU, I just plug in the EHU extension lead to the 12v victron charger, and that keeps the 12v LB side topped up.... Then the Ablemail Amt keeps the starter topped up.

No need for second starter battery chargers and ask that....

I works great .... And perfect for out requirements.

*****

IF you used EHU most or 50/50 of the time I'd suggest you look at the victron multiplus range.... Which in, inverter, transfer switch and maybe charger all in one.

Thanks. That was my thinking. I haven’t got a hook up at the moment. Was thinking about the multiples as a “what if…” scenario. But I hadn’t thought about just using a stand alone charger if ever needed on hookup.
I’m still considering one of the all in one power station things. Probably the Bluetti, just for the simple reason it will fit under the bed board behind the seat whereas the Ecoflow is too tall.
