Combined courtesy and ambient lighting (white/red light)

Thoughts please...

I'd like courtesy AND ambient lighting that is white and red respectively. I figured I could modify these by replacing the switch function with a relay of some kind that switches between off/red/white.

Can this work? Has anyone else achieved dual purpose lighting and if so how?
