Blower/fan fuse keeps failing resistor replaced

Hi, hope someone can offer some words of wisdom. Long time forum lurker and researcher.

I believe I’ve read the thread(s)and watched the videos on this, but I’m none the wiser.

My blowers stopped working in my 2017 t6. I went ahead and replaced the 40a maxi fuse.

As experienced by many, once the fuse was replaced the blowers were only working on 4.
I read up and decided I needed a new resistor.

I first sourced a resistor from Amazon. This didn’t explicitly mention t6, but comments suggested it would work, so I gave it a go. Looked good initially, but after some changing of fan speed, Fuse tripped. Resistor discoloured.

2nd attempt…

I got another fuse and this time I replaced the resistor with part 7E0959263C from Travelin-lite. This mentions that it is t6 compatible. I was able to change fan speed, however when I turned the AC on, the blower fuse immediately blew. Not sure if the resistor is still ok this time.

Happy to take it into vw specialist if I need to, but more happy to save some pennys if it’s something I can investigate further myself.

Any ideas?

If fuses are blowing then its for a reason, you are pulling more than the rated current of 40A
The fact it worked for a bit after the first replacement implies it not totally dead/shorted so you would have to assume the motor is failing (bearing failing or impeller jamming/fouling) and this is causing increased current consumption ?

You say when you turned the A/C on the fuse immediately blew. I'll need to look at a drawing to see if something is electronically connected which I imagine it is but this would suggest it is A/C related. I'll see if I can flick through a drawing now

I could be wrong but it looks like the fan blower is supplied via S25 which is fed off the AC controller. My theory is all is well with the HVAC system until the AC is activated then it takes out the fuse that supplies the AC controller and in turn the blower fan. I could be wrong and I've only had a very brief look at this as I'm currently at my other job. But happy to assist further if needed.

Also @chunkp don't suppose you've got someone near by that can plug the van in see if it's throwing any faults up?

Many thanks both. I’m in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. I’ll have an investigate this weekend. Think I might end up taking to someone in the know after one more go

A much delayed update to bring closure to this thread. Garage tried new resistor and fuse, but problem reoccurred. Further investigation garage found one of the cable harnesses had been worked on, presumably by a previous owner. It had been placed in such a way that caused the brown cable leading to the control unit to rub/wear causing some exposed wire. Whenever I operated the control unit the exposed cable shorted the fuse.

Cable replaced all now fine.
