Android Car Stereos UK

Turns out this was caused by having the external GSP antenna plugged in.

In a bit of a 180 turn of events I'm actually going to be selling this unit. Have decided to do a full system upgrade with a higher end head unit, speakers, amp etc so I'll be look to sell this unit over the next few weeks.

Has nothing to do with this unit, its been great and the after care service has actually been up there with the best I've received (spoken with them a few time around issue of my making).

So if anyone is on the fence and wants to try on the cheap. Ping me and we can sort something out (or ill stick up a for sale ad).

Interesting how you're really pleased with it but have now decided to swap to 'a higher end' unit 🤔 ..
Reading between the lines this says it ain't that great otherwise you'd have added speakers and amps to it .

You're too much glass half empty @JumpShip

Its a tops unit for the cash.

But I've decided I want to get new speaker, an amp and sub and some rears installed. I'm getting these install by a local shop and that kind of setup doesn't really work with this unit in the sense that its a budget unit so the sound and audio control are more limited. I've decided to get a Pioneer Evo 980 installed at the same time so everything is under the one warranty and the shop did a bit of a deal for everything.

Nothing more than that. I took a punt on the unit, loved it and made me realise I actually wanted more and figured with what I'd sell it for I'm happy to lose a bit of cash. I've been very open with my experience.

But hey, you read all you like

This has worked out well. The system is pretty cool for the money (especially mates rates) so I installed it wrong obviously but have had a one to one with android car stereo uk about it and the guy was so patient and talked me through everything even though it was second hand. I still have stuff to install as a new antenna needed and also a longer cam cable so will update - these weren't the ones provided by ACSU.

I'd recommend though

So, please can i ask a couple of questions? Am i right in thinking the stereo needs a stick on the windscreen dab aerial or shark fin and will not work with the original mirror one? Also the original microphone will not work and you have to run an aftermarket one in the kit?
Last one does it need to be wired with a permanent live to stop the slow "boot up" on ignition turn on?
Thanks in advance, it would be great to get some user feedback..........Kev

You need a window antenna (mine is wrong so getting a replacement) like this

So I'm takin this one off and when I get the new one I'm gonna put it along the upper window edge so less obvious and potentially will have a screen visor sticker so won't be visible. My standard radio worked but DAB was twitchy so new aerial will solve it I guess.

I used the integrated mic for one call with the wife and she said I was a bit quiet. Happy with the mic in the box though. No fun routing cable but it never is.

No permanent live needed i don't think. I haven't noticed a slow start up but will keep an eye on it.

Some other things to add.

The unit uses your phone's wifi and bluetooth for android auto so from what I can tell, using the units other tricks requires android auto/apple connect to be disconnected... but am new to ut still so not sure if it's an issue.

The dash USB (single one)

Our stereo cannot be used as a power source. The output power is only about 2/3 amps. That will not charge your phone. The USB is only there to plug in a USB drive to play music or videos.

So please do not rely on the stereo to charge your phone.

You can use the original dab aerial, if you read back this thread I posted the link to the adapter. Saves having an aerial stuck to the windscreen.

The radio doesn't do a full reboot every time it starts. It will if left a few days, but in regular use it starts straight away.

Does anyone know of a method to waterproof the below connection type. I'm gonna run a cable outside of the van for the reverse cam and need to make the connections waterproof

Won't you be able to get a long enough run that the connectors are on the inside? One inside the rear door and one behind the glovebox/head unit.

I get your thinkin but my rearview dash cam is wired in to my door already and I don't want two camera's side by side on the door and also really don't wanna route another wire through the door umbilical - it's a nightmare. Seems simpler to take it down the rear quarter and drill through the bottom and chase the wire along the bumper. I'll post pics when done and it'll probably make more sense.

Edit: I'm not waterproofing the yellow plugs behind the unit, I'm water proofing the yellow cam connector plug outside (but tucked in the bumper) and also waterproofing the powet plug for the reverse light connection. These will both be external when installed.

Have you taken the factory screen protector off?
What makes you ask? I’m sure I peeled something off, maybe need to take a closer look to see if there’s another one.

Just had a look at my unboxing photos, I peeled off the protector with the tab,

No that's fine. I just thought your screen seems brighter but it may be the camera or something. There is a screen protector on it as standard if you look really closely at the vertical edges of screen and I was briefly tempted to take it off. Not gonna, but wondered if anyone has.

Hi has anyone tried using the factory rear camera with this head unit buy using the adapter like this one

Just bought one of these units after reading this thread, but FM reception is not good, can only find 1 station, company was very good and sent me replacement loom, however still only one station, is that correct ? Appears that you also have to disable bluetooth to allow a wifi connection for Internet is that correct or am I doing something wrong, cheers John
