Android Car Stereos UK

Im thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these too, although nervous enough on the import costs to Rep of Ireland.
Quick questions.
1. Are these plug and play? I've zero experience of changing radios and far from an auto spark.
2. We dont have DAB in Ireland how do ye find the FM functions? Getting signal and storing stations?
3. I think it comes with a reversing camera. Does this just get wired into the radio or does it need be be hardwired somewhere else to recognise when reverse is selected?

Sorry amateur questions which makes me think I should get someone professional to install.

Cheers
Dave
1. Yes it's plug and play.
2. Not sure on the FM side of things is as i either use DAB or a radio app.
3. Camera plugs into the rear of the stereo, you then need to trace the wires to the rear and get the feed from the reversing light. (Still waiting to fit mine)
I just make do with the sensors and await a loud crunching sound.

Hi, What radio App do you use ? and thanks for the reply.

So I've been on the fence for a while now about what I wanted to do as my OEM screen is failing. Have has some quotes to upgrade to a Kenwood system etc. I've been very close to paying the money and getting it done but always held of as all I really want is a standard wireless Android auto system and £800+ was just a bit of a stinger for that. I know I could have gone middle of the road cheaper but if I was going to pay someone might as well go the whole way.

Read this and loved the OEM type look thanks @tomosllyr for posting. Decided to buy and risk it at this price.

Here is my honest review.

Reached out to Android Car Stereos a couple of times but didn't get a response. After 3 days I did get a reply and from that point I couldn't be more happy. Answered all my questions. Gave advice without pushing a sale and after ordering checked my details to make sure everything was right and dispatched same day tracked. I ordered Friday and the unit arrived today (Monday). Followed up with more images and advice today.

Plain packaging but packaged well.

Limited install instructions but enough to give you what you need. I've never installed anything like this before but it was pretty much plug and play. The only real work was routing the cables but that's not on them.

My 3rd party reverse camera didn't work out the box (they adviced it might not over email) so I've switched out for the one the included. This is an upgrade for me as it has the reversing lines that move with the wheel.

OEM parking sensors work out the box. Door open alerts work out the box.

I added the DAB aerial and that works perfectly. I've connected to my van WiFi and maps work great outside of android auto if you want to go that route. The radio plays when using nav. The naughty stuff like YouTube, Netflix work should you be that way incline. All the multi function controls on the steering wheel work. Android auto connects within seconds. Not tried apple play.

I added the external mic but not tried a call. Personally I don't talk on the phone too often while driving so nothing major either way for me.

For £200 I couldn't be happier with the install, look and performance.

Can you show me what the carplay icon looks like on this? my van has the same unit (i think) the main home screen and dab radio bit look the exact same but im struggling to get it to work

Thanks for the info guys, think I will give them a go. I got prices from them on the 4gb+64gb and the 6gb+128gb.
Which model are people going for?

Hi, couple of pretty basic questions on this unit - anyone know how to change the ringtone, it's very "Beijing" currently...?! Also I'd like to remove the door opening pop up on the display and can't work out how to disable. Any help would be appreciated.
So I've tried various ways of trying to change the ringtone.
Can't see anything through the settings menu.
Tried to Bluetooth a mp3 file over, head unit accepted it, but can't see a way to assign it to a ringtone.
There does appear to be a sdcard menu and a sub menu for ringtone.
Still trying to figure this out.
Home screen>file explorer>sdcard>ringtone

I'll try and have a play tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

Tbh when my phone rings on the unit I hear my own phone ringtone through the sound system. It may be the settings on your phone that need tweaking. I have an android phone so it may be that, that makes it work like this...

Hi, I also have an android phone. There used to be an option to select ringtone sync on the AA Bluetooth settings to use the phone ringtone, but that isn't present anymore. Funnily enough the Chinese ringtone isn't one of mine, it must be the default ringtone for the unit. Everything I've read on using AA would suggest it's the unit ringtone that gets used and if there is no option to change a setting on the unit i'm stuck with the oriental massage parlour background music.

Question number 1.
Described in the instructions as the white Fakra plug which is on the van. How do I connect the black plug from the Ariel output to it.

You need a double to single fakra adapter. They are between £5-10 on Amazon. Just make sure for get the right male/female ends.
