23k Miles.. Had 1 Vw Service.. To Send Back To Vw Or Do Myself?

Warranty doesn’t matter as long as the ‘proper’ services are done officially at a dealer or a VAT registered garage using genuine parts

VW service regime is quite long so no issue with doing an interim service yourself, I let VW do the main services every 2 years and sort an oil change in between myself

Is it really £295 for a 'major' service? For a few filters and oil? I guess this is what i'll need due to being the second service.

If it’s for a major service then your warranty is already finished (unless you paid for the 2 year extension)?

2 year service interval so minor at 2 years then major at 4 years (not that I agree with those timings I’m more of an annual man)

Get it done at an indy for 100 quid. And get it serviced every 10k or 12 months.
The major service is an oil change with some basic checks that get done as part of an MOT. The minor service is anmpil change and a wipe over with the gritty sponge.
That said, my Toymota work van has 25k intervals and a 5 year warranty. I did a sneaky DIY oil change at 10k using genuine parts. Might go indy for the first official service depending on what laughable figure the dealer quotes...

Just a quick one on servicing.

My van is an 18 plate, 12,000 miles and the inspection light is on already, is this correct?

Cheers

Yep . . . . 1st oil service is at 12k (oil & filter only)

  • Service Regime One: Fixed Service (Time and Distance) – the first of 12,000 miles or 12 months
    • Recommended if you drive less than 10,000 miles a year
    • You drive your van mainly in town centres / heavy traffic
    • You make frequent short journeys
    • You often use your van for towing or heavily laden
    • Your driving style involves hard acceleration and braking
  • Service Regime Two: Flexible Service (Long Life Service) – the first of 18,000 miles or 24 months
    • Recommended if you drive over 25 miles a day
    • You often use your van for long distance journeys
    • You rarely tow with your van or use it to its maximum load capacity
    • You adopt an economical driving style with minimal engine loading

Mine is exactly the same (light came on last week) and has gone intoday for it's first service today, incidentally they have given me a loaner T6, it's a Highline Kombi (like mine but a 5 speed manual), apart from having a random third pedal to deal with (how terribly bothersome, mine's a DSG) it is also soooo boomy in the back, it's really reiterated how much of a difference sound deadening, insulating and carpeting the van has made, oh and the addition of some rear speakers and an underseat subwoofer, just reinforces all the extra's I saved hard for and specced on my van were 100% worthwhile ;)

As above, get it serviced at a VAG independent specialist or just any old garage so long as they are VAT registered and use OEM parts to retain your warranty.

A main dealer won't buy your vehicle back if it's got independent servicing on it which may affect your resale value.

I'm keeping my bus for many years , so I get an interim oil change every 5k miles at my local specialist and a main service every 10k at the main dealer.

Thanks for clearing that up then :)

I’ll get it booked in.

Before I do though, would it be wise to remove my 20 inch alloys and put the standard ones back on, for any future warranty claims and the like?

Only if you think you'll need to warranty claim for anything the wheels are attached to like bearings, drive shafts etc

Although VW approved modders like Vanworx and Cotrim fit 20" wheels now, so I'm not even sure that VW could refuse a claim even with 20" wheels?

@Insert Coin , who do you use for your local specialist?

Kartechnic on the Nuffield, they know T6's inside out.

They've built a 450bhp TSi and last time I went were in the process of converting a 2wd TSi to a 4-motion, not a simple process.

So for routine servicing these guys will do a great job.
