Hi all
Over the last few weeks noticed a whooshing type sound, that i assumed was the turbo, but its much more frequent that a turbo sound and last longer. Particular prevailant on start up. Have let it go for a while with intention to get it booked in at some point, but then noticed few days ago exhaust fumes smell in the cab. Thought i was imagining it at first, sat at a petrol station today waiting for the car in front to move on thinking blimey his car stinks, then i heard him start up the engine and i was like uh oh that small is my van!
Checked again today and definitely smell getting in the cab.

Any ideas?

Could be something on the intake hoses/charge cooler where they are presurised by the turbos.
Does it do it when stationery?

Can you record it on your phone?

Thanks, no it doesn’t do it stationery and also not at higher speeds, Pulling away, and driving up through gears its most prevailant. If i floor it, then it clears quicker than if i gradullay build up speed.

Will try and record it tomorrow and post. I could do without it going in even though will be warranty, but suspect i’ll have to

Sounds like the same issue as I'm having now. (Same 204 DSG)

Find the EGR flexy pipe and whilst the engine is running, and not hot, hold your hand around the concertina part to see if you can feel the fumes blowing out.
It will be obvious to the touch.

Thanks, Was it easy to sort at the dealer?

I’ll have a look at this tomorrow

Defo sounds like a leak in the turbo to inlet circuit.

Via charge cooler/ egr etc.

As above get someone to blip the throttle to the 2500rpm limiter while in park With a cool engine while you are under the bonnet.

Follow the charge pipe from the turbo down to the intercooler and back up to the inlet mafilfold.

Get it booked into VW for a repair.

Hi, had a very similar issue with a Subaru. It was one of the turbo pipes that had a small split in it, 2 garages missed the issue but a Subaru specialist spotted it straight away. There was oil around the split which gave it away.
