Which Reversing Camera?

This is my T6.1. Appears quite different. One sensor appears to be in the bracket, another seems to be in the mirror. No idea where to go now with fitting my wolfbox. ‍

Hi, how did you solve this? I have the exact same issue. Was thinking of carefully drilling through next to the wiring loom but would line advice. Thanks

I used a piece of cable puller I had laying around (yellow and plastic) my cable for the alpine unit was pretty small, and fished it down from inside and then pulled it through the rubber shield and into the barn door itself

Thanks! how did you get into the van from the wiring on the door? Did you drill into the cabin next to the wiring?
 
I wiggled a piece of wire (think coat hanger) down the rubber bellows and pulled wires back with the small loop I made on the end. A bit fiddly, but possible.

I wonder if anyone can help.
I have fitted a high level reversing camera to a t6 lwb 2018 barn door fully converted campervan with a wireless transmitter to a mirror camera.
I have fitted a relay and wired it into the reversing light feed but need a clean 12v supply. Where can I pick a feed up from in the rear door. I don’t have a wiper on the barn door.
The monitor works well without the engine running as soon as it runs the camera doesn’t work can anyone help
 
Hello, new to the VW camper conversion world/community! Absolutely buzzing to get out and about this summer👌🏻 I have a T28 highline 2024 model and would love a reversing camera. I’ve attached my infotainment dashboard, ant recommendations/guidance would be fab please!

I fitted an Empirical In Car reversing camera.

Had it a year and impressed with it.

Fitted myself to already converted van.
 
Hi, I've got a 16 plate T6 and want to fit a reversing camera to it. Been looking at some of the wireless ones that the camera connects to the reversing light and the screen plugs in to the cigarette lighter. Does anyone have experience of these? And if so are they worth it? Will wiring it into the reversing light cause any errors to pop up?
 
I've used an Autovox TW1 on the back of my van and on my tower mounted bike rack - the monitor sits on the dash and allows switching between the two cameras. I've now got a proper wired Kenwood camera on the van but still use the Autovox on the bike rack (the one that was on the rear number plate is now hidden away in the front grille but I don't keep the monitor plugged in unless I'm using the bike rack). The cameras are a bit fugly but do the job - they're rechargeable with micro USB and the charge last ages (I'm talking at least a month but 'I've never tried longer). There's a post on here somewhere from 4 or 5 years ago when I first reviewed it but a quick search didn't turn it up - I did however mention it in the context of another post (about bike racks) and there are some pictures towards the bottom of the post here:

Arrows marked 1 indicate the bolts which need to be taken out to dismantle the rack to allow the bung/stops (marked at 2) to be removed for cutting. Be careful of the lighting cable looms - you just need to pull out the clips to get plenty of room to work.

The black tube over the central part of the number plate is the camera - an Auto Vox TW1 which I bought from Amazon.


The kit comes with the monitor and 1 camera but I also bought an extra. At the time, I didn't have a reversing camera on the van so I fixed one to both the van and the bike rack and it's very easy to switch between the two as required. I've now got a Kenwood reversing camera hooked up to my new Kenwood head unit in the van but will continue to use the Act Vox on the bike rack - personally, I think it's a brilliant bit of kit that's very easy to install and use. I'm bad enough reversing the van without extra aids so I'm terrified every time I reverse the van fitted with a cycle rack with assistance!

As you can see, the monitor is pretty small. I keep it on my Seat Shelf when I'm using it but it does come with the usual sucker mount for the dash/windscreen.

Just thought I would drop my two pence worth in here, as it may help a fellow forum member in the future....

I had seen many an advert for the AutoVox Solar 3A Plus system, which is a number plate mounted camera with integrated solar panel which charges an internal battery for the cam itself, facilitating a completely wire free installation. This connects wirelessly to a dashboard mounted screen which is available in two sizes, I opted for the larger 7.2 inch screen. The installation itself was absolutely easy peasy and the camera connected straight away to the monitor as soon as you turned the monitor on.

However....

As great as the camera was for seeing behind the vehicle in daylight, it was absolutely useless as a parking aid, which is what I wanted a reverse camera for! The newer design of this camera meant that the camera had to be mounted on the lower of the number plate as opposed to the top of the plate where it would block the number plate light. Due to this, the camera was too far to the left of the van and even with the camera turned to its lowest position on its mount, the camera was unable to see close enough to be of any use. The closet view available was around 2 feet from the rear bumper.

In addition to this, there was little to no night vision other than that provided dimly by the illumination of the reverse light.

I think the concept of the wireless installation was great, however it just isn't suitable for a T6 with barn doors. It may be ok with a tailgate model, but not something I could have tested having a barn door model.

Like I say, I'm just posting this here to save someone else from ordering one and being disappointed and having to go through the returns process, which having bought directly as opposed to via Amazon, meant I had to pay for postage myself which was £9.95 with insurance.

If anyone has used any alternative completely wireless systems, I would be interested to know what they were! :)
