Which Jump Starter?

lowest I've seen it priced of late

cracking price . . . i had one of those - very capable.

be mindful that is the older legacy model.

The newer version is the GBX155 - that i have now, alongsige a GBX75

.

Got my cheapie Gooloo X7 off Amazon a couple of years ago. Has jumped several cars upto and including a 2l petrol - (not got to test it on my van luckily) and the pump is brilliant. (although, admittedly, over the last month the tyre guage has decided to show 4lb less than it should do after I maxed out the pump dry testing a central heating system (don't ask)).
Apart from the tyre guage -
Battery stays charged for months, still jumps, works perfectly as far as I know and at the time was less than £40 - so was originally thinking it was a throwaway after use.
Looking on Amazon, it has been superceded by the even cheaper GP2000 (£32!!) which, as I type this, makes me think it isn't a good idea to get that one - but thought I would put in my 2p worth as an alternative option.

Does that apply to any other lithium base battery as well? I'm thinking of maybe Renogy leisure battery or even the couple of rechargeable torches that are left in mine (and also were on road trips where temperature were equal to what we're getting at the moment as, indeed, was my Noco GBX75).

For the TLDR folk, this is the bit on LifePo4 batteries in use in the UK during spring/summer…

“If occasional heatwaves occur, with temperatures exceeding 30°C, implement cooling measures such as fans or shading to prevent the batteries from overheating above 35°C.”

Insides of vehicles get hotter than 35 degrees C even on relatively mild days though 🤷‍♂️😱🚐🔥

Noco’s are Lithium Ion not LiFePo4, at least mine is.
Lithium Ion is less stable when overheated, same goes for all the tool batteries in uninsulated panel vans.
That said I have worked in just over 50 deg C with power tools and nothing failed, but there wasn’t a choice.

Hi,

Firstly - apols if this is a really silly question... Looking to purchase Noco Boost GB70. To use it - I assumed simply connect Black and Red clips - but per picture my battery has a X through the black clip - to me indicating not to connect??? But will it jump start connecting Red clip only?

Noco Boost certainly seems to get the vote. However seen Wolfbox MegaVolt16 3000A - on Amazon Prime it's just £70.99 - seems a GB75 equivalent and more than capable device???

Thanks

The reason the don’t connect here sign is there is because it would by-pass the battery shunt and that would not monitor the battery status.
For emergency jump starting you can and with Noco you have little choice as the leads are so short.
I fitted a separate Negative cable to the engine mount ground point which is secured and runs up to the battery area.
As with my Noco, never needed to use it so far!
The Noco or any other charger won’t make a circuit with just one lead connected.
In the case of routine battery charging connect the charger Negative to a bare steel chassis point (engine mount ground connection).

Not sure what that fuse holder is for cable tied to the Positive, I would fit a better fuse holder (enclosed) as this area is not protected from road spray and the crud / salt.

Thanks @DCC. Think I'm following lol - even my minimalist knowledge was telling me one lead connected wouldn't make a circuit. But was concerned connecting a lead where there's a big X would do some damage. In summary, should jump start ever be required I'm OK to connect Red/Black to terminals.

My van is a Camper - so assume the fuse holder is related to the Camper electric, but appreciate the point made, obv something to look into.

Appreciate thoughts re if Wolfbox MegaVolt16 3000A is a decent unit? After new Clutch/flywheel, Headlights, Battery, Sidebars etc - all within last 2 weeks - I'll just get that look if another parcel turns up lol! But obv big advocate of buy cheap buy twice

I have a Vtolman booster which I think is the same company as make the GooLoo ones which get very good reviews.
I do have a Wolfbox air blower and it’s amazing quality and another tool that always reviews well, but haven’t had one of their booster packs.
For me a booster is a back up plan and a tool that I’ve never had to use in over 30 years of motoring so I didn’t want to spend hundreds on one. Mine has been used to help neighbours and it performed well, starting a car with a dead battery instantly.

As for the red x in the photo (of you battery terminal) it also shows a book symbol indicating it is covered in the owners manual - worth seeing what it says but when using mine on the neighbours vehicles we just connected directly to the battery and all was fine.
