Using a NOCO jump starter

Hi,
the wife has a NOCO boost sport GB20 500A 12 V jump starter , its classed a s a "Petrol" starter , I'm in a T32 T6 Kombi Diesel , just about to go camping for a couple of days and was gonna throw this in the van "just in case" .. any reason why this would not potentially get the van started if it was needed ?
The reviews on amazon stated qquite a few prople who have used on a diesel.

Take it along by all means.

But anything under the GB70 is not recommended for T6 with a dead flat battery.

More info...

In used a GB40 on my dead battery in Austria @ -9c and it started like a breeze. but it wasn’t flat, flat! Still had 11.24v in it.

Yep I'm not expecting a flat battery , it just a back up plan as this is my first couple of nights away in the van.

I will try to keep all interior lights off etc .. should be ok , any advice on keeping battery use to a minimum would be appreciated.. I've got ehu

I’ve mentioned elsewhere that my GB70 did not start my T6, but the battery was 6 years old, and was at 3 volts !
These devices are good, but can’t perform miracles ;)

You could just buy a cheapish battery charger, plugged into your EHU outlet in the van, and then into the permanently live cigarette lighter socket in the dash. It doesn’t need to be in there all the time.
5 Amps would be plenty.

This’ll do it. Or use an Ecoflow Delta 2 or Jackery! I have done that before now.

I've had a quick look on amazon , but can only see the solar ones with a cigarette lighter attachment , have you seen one like this around ?

I suppose it depends on your definition of cheap :)

I use a Ctek MXS 5 and I guess I must have bought the cigarette socket adaptor for it at some point.

Pete

Cheaper chargers are available and you could make up your own lighter socket adaptor.

That's a shame Pete.

And supprising?

I've started a T6 with a dead flat battery..... Used overide mode and turned the start key asap so as not to loose to much pack power into the starter battery.

Yip same with me. Regularly use this feature. I have seen where the Noco does not have 2 bars of power in it left, it struggling to boost, I then posted that it took more than 5 mins charging on other vehicle before it would jump..... I can confirm that my battery would be flat as a pancake. Before boosting!

Where do you put the negative as the leads are short ? I went off grid in June and mine dropped to 11 v and van wouldn’t start, luckily I took my GTEK smart charger and some nice guy used his leisure battery with an inverter so after 10 mins my van jumped to life

it should fit on the battery retaining bolt on the front of the battery.

I added a specific negative post to mine to make life easier.

You can put a jump starter direct to the battery terminals. The focus is getting the vehicle started with the best possible connection.

Pete
Good to know, I always thought that was frowned upon however probably got it confused with charging :)

So with the Noco it doesn’t have to go to the engine? I was told never to jumpstart with the negative on battery
