Shouldnt be connected to the power on the OBD, dont think its usually fused very high, although the dashcam shouldnt use more then 1amp anyway. but not the best idea. For a proper installation it should be hard wired either to the back of the fuse box using an unused slot or a piggy back fuse connector.
Youll useually have 3 wires, +12v, ignition and negative.
Here at Nextbase, we offer special offers on select dash cam products to help you save money when buying more than one item within a bundle. Check them out.
I've had a Blackvue since 2011 ish - it would be an old bit of kit now and is in a box in the garage ready to go into one of the weekend cars.
I've got Nextbase cameras in the 2 dailies, but I bought them both second hand with duff batteries. The one in the van is now playing up and I've been looking at replacements - a like for like Nextbase-refurbished 522 is £100. The Blackvue I want is more like £300....
Evening. What are people's thoughts on best dashcam currently available. Are people still having issues with the Nextbase IQ connected directly to OBD port. I've done some digging and will not readily be able to access my fuses but can readily feel and almost see OBD port below steering wheel. It's a long shot but anyone ideas whether a Nextbase IQ would work connected to OBD port on electric van. Tourneo Custom? Did you ever get sorted @Bertrum ?
Hi yes I hard wired it in to a permanent live. You do have to set a battery voltage cutoff quite high though as the blooming thing never turns off. It’s even worse when you have the event notifications on. It’s good but a bit greedy on power.
