Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Hillcroft… across and up the road… Roehead lane I think … the back lane out of the site heads up onto the fell .. 🏔️been a few times now … spot on facilities … great walks …. And pubs galore on the door step…. ☀️☀️🍺👌🤙🏽
It certainly is a beautiful area, we stayed at parkfoot on the way to Scotland, walked along to hillside site and back to pooley bridge, liked pooley bridge inn so had a night in there on the return trip, definitely will return

Left the CAMC, and headed down to Torver, parking opposite the old Land Rover dealer.

On the way back, spot the van!

Fabulous walk, after the busy Tarn Hows yesterday, this was much quieter, apart from beside the lake.

Stunning 360° views from the top of Beacon /Blawith Fell, and no-one around!

Pont du Gard next ? Well worth it. And if you're in to that sort of thing, try finding the remnants of the water system to Nimes in the hills nearby......
Some nice villages in the area too. Vaison La Romaine is great, likewise Bedoin before a trip up Ventoux.
@Sackmycook. Did PdG on the way here - absolutely stunning. I thought I had posted a picture here but obvs not. Must be the heat or my age or both. It was also a bit hot for traipsing around in the hills but we've made a pledge to come back when it's not quite so.8L5A0429 copy.webp

Stayed in the campsite in the centre of Bedoin a couple of years ago which i would highlt recommend. Cycled up Ventoux which was challenging. It was mid June and the temperature in the village was around 28 degrees. Att the top it must have been down to 8. glad i brought a coat lol

@Nilall.b I did Ventoux about 30 years and almost half a lifetime ago and IIRC, I was so hot by the time I got to the top it was a while before I realised how cold it was and went for another layer. FWIW, I bought a box of Mont Ventoux vin rouge today - that's the closest I'm likely to get to the climb nowadays.

Well that was a day! We drove from 90 odd minutes from Avignon to La Grande Motte with the intention of staying for a few days at Camping La Petite Motte . When we arrived and asked for a pitchy, the guy warned us that they had a major mosquito issue at the moment so we decided to check in for just one night to see how bad it was or wasn't. We got to the allocated pitch at around 1230 hrs, got out of the van and were both immediately swarmed by the little bastards and Mrs AJ got bitten on her leg (it's a household joke that she never gets bitten as I'm much sweeter meat) and had to wonder if it was that bad at dead mid-da y, what was it going to be like later on? Enough was enough so we got back into the van and drove for another two hours to Camping Les Crique Portels near Collioure and are now on a nice quiet elevated terrace with only one other van which happens to be on the one that we stayed on the last time we were here.

Enjoy, we have also tried the same vintage as a reminder of the trip (and climb). I intended to stop off at Chalet Reynard on the way down. Not to steal a bottle of brandy from the bar but for a beer but i was so cold i just wanted to get back to the heat.

Last night a single night at Camping Sollasi in the Netherlands, Duinschooten the area. Hired some bikes and went to the beach.
Today a 3 and a half hour drive to Camping Gentele in Bruges. What a beautiful place Bruges is! Stunning.
Following a Satnav communication issue we ended up driving through the cobbled streets on our own personal unguided tour! With their ANPR systems in operation I am indeed expecting a fine or two to land on the doorstep in the coming days, I'll keep you posted on that!
My next job is to book a Dunkirk overnighter for tomorrow to be close enough to Calais for our return to non-civilisation on Friday.
Only done just over 1000 miles so far, with a few more hundred to follow, fabulous break!

Back to the subject of mossies at La Grands Motte, Mrs AJ found this on YT - should have done the research but, to be fair, we've been there a few times before and never had any major issues:

@Drive Waybe. Glad you've all enjoyed yourselves. When I first read your last post, I got quite excited as I thought you had found a previously hidden campsite near Bruge but Gentele looks just the little bit too far to walk especially when loaded up with grub and 8 - 13% beer!
If you do want something very close to Le Shuttle, I'd recommend Camping Fort du Lapin - a bit primitive but very clean. It's a 20 minute walk to Calais Centre and 10 minute drive to Leshuttle. If you're in Calais, go and scoff some frites at Friterie des Nations on the beach - probably the best chips in the world.
Have a safe journey back to Brum.

Thanks @Ayjay , I've just booked another night here, facilities are perfect and it's an hours drive to the Shuttle.
My girls are obviously simpletons and loved Bruges! €38 a night but a bit 'o quality!

We are headed to Montpellier in July - was the mossie plague particularly in LaGrandeMotte since it’s directly on a lagoon, or are they more widespread?
