Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Just had a 5hr plus drive and now in Spain. Stopped at Camping La Fresneda. Only a very small site, literally in the middle of nowhere. Personal touch sort of place run by a Dutch couple. Greeted with a welcome drink of a beer!

On the way here, I drove by this restaurant. I had to drive further to turn around to take a pic. Wife commented that I turned around just because of the sign. I said I couldn’t believe anyone wouldn’t turn around to do so. It’s a boy thing apparantly.

I did a similar thing in France, really wanted to go in and order a large one... 🙄 20250818_131222~2.webp

@burnsy79 - we have a little usb air con thing that has water bottles you put in the fridge to help cool the air, it's next to useless but slightly better than not having it. It was a middle if Lidl purchase. We also have a usb twin fan that fits on the back of the driver's headrest which we can leave plugged in all the time due to positioning of one of the usb sockets, plus another desktop style usb fan as well. Plus keep the door open, plus the vents in the pop top, plus minimal bedding, plus park in the shade. It was still bloody roasting though!

We didn’t find this to be too expensive (more than elsewhere but comparable to uk) what was insane was the price of eating out, at least twice what we paid in Austria, hence the cadac got a workout there and we headed to France a day early!
We’ve got 2 nights, Thurs/Fri on the site you stayed at in Grindelwald. We may stay Saturday yet, but Switzerland isn’t really the holiday. The main trip is Italy/Crotia so we’ll see how it goes.
Currently on a nice little aire at the side of the canal at Thaon-les-Vosges. Had a wander into town for a beer in a nice little local bar.
Only 220 miles to go to Grindelwald before Thursday lunch so ahead of schedule.IMG_8824.webp

be careful if you go around the back of the van in the middle of the night for a piss. I wouldn't put it past you to fall in!!

I’d recommend 2 nights so you can spend a day up the mountain we left after that despite paying for a third. Would also recommend going for the First cable car trip to the top, much much cheaper than the eiger trip although that does sound amazing and could be worth it if you are guaranteed clear skys and are loaded. We got to the gondolas early and got one to ourselves (and it didn’t stop, we noticed while walking down it kept stopping as it got busier)

@Bigsidavies. I'm guessing that you're doing Italy first as you're travelling via Switzerland but where are you going in Croatia? We're heading down there the weekend after next but will be going via France, Germany, Austria and Slovenia before crossing the border onto Croatia. We've no real plans but the trip will probably involve Istria and then following the coast towards Dubrovnik whilst stopping whenever the force tells us (probably won't get as far as Dubrovnik though).

The train up the Jungfrau and/or a trip up the Schilthorn for a (expensive!) coffee in the rotating Piz Gloria restaurant are great trips with awesome views. If it’s clear and sunny!!

Thanks. Our plan is the cable car to First on Friday morning and hike back down. Jungfraujoc is a little too pricey.

Yeah, Italy for us first then across to Dubrovnik on the ferry from Bari then up the coast.
We’ve got a few campsites pinned into google maps for the journey, but only a few definites, such as Trogir and Split, Plitvice, Lake Bled and then home via Slovenia, Austria, the romantic road in Germany then probably the Netherlands and Zeebrugge to Hull roughly on the 8th of October.
Keep posting your locations and our paths may cross in 3 or 4 weeks.
