Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Just spent three days in Shropshire at Small Batch Camping at the foot of the Long Mynd in Little Stretton. Very quiet site with somewhat rustic facilities but worth it for the peace and quiet. It also completed the golden ratio of great site, great walks from the site and two pubs 10 mins walk away from the village! A really nice site , I also like Brown Farm on the opposite side of the Mynd

Quite a decent site in Beynac et Cazenac on The Dordogne. View of the castle from the site which is next to the river. We are at the very end of the site closest to the castle which will be lit up tonight as it’s the French National day. Downside is, the other side of the hedge on public ground is where the stage is for tonight’s DJ which runs until 0100! Might just have to join the party.

Meant to have left between 8-9.Its now 11.15 and I'm still parked outside the Lidl near our apartment 😭

After spending some time down in the Pyrenees we started the slow bimble back north a few days ago - I couldn't tell you where we've actually been though, as we just took random directions whenever the mood or the sights took us.

We've had a couple of great nights in various municipal sites, arriving back in the Souilac area along the Dordogne this morning, we're pitched right up against the bank of the river. All for the princely sum of €20 per night (with electric).

Sat having a beer after getting set-up, we suddenly got new neighbours; an elderly French couple in possibly the largest motorhome I've seen - one of these beasties!

It took the poor chap more than 20 minutes to actually manoeuvre onto the pitch, getting angrier and angrier with his poor wife's directions. It got to the stage where we had to move a bunch of our stuff off our pitch to give him space to manoeuvre.

Once he was on and settled, he opened his garage and reversed out a massive Polaris 4x4

I now feel desperately inadequate, we'd probably fit in his garage :D

He is compensating for inadequate genitals, ask his wife.

Oh my god what a day.... Drove all through Spain over the border and head to Biarritz. Got there about 8 ish only to find they were celebrating Assumption day and they place was grid locked. Hotel car park full and every single side road was packed. So dropped the family to check in and then drove round and around and around then around some more... 😡😡
Found a car park 20 minute walk away and thought that's not too bad then read the sign saying 90 minutes max stay! 😭
Back in the van, family walked to meet me then off we went again.
Celebrations have now finished so we tried again and finally got a space near the hotel and finally in the room. It's now half midnight after setting off in Spain at just after 11am.
I know have a long meeting with Miguel as I'm shattered and wired!

Biarritz is nice in October / November, generally good weather, free parking and plenty of space in restaurants and bars.

IMG_6668.webpOvernighter at wagtail park, York for another uni open day. Dropped them off setup and had a good chat with the owner, very helpful pointers for getting in and out of York with the dog as downside of the site is that there’s no pedestrian access, was planning to walk along a busy road through a golf course and then catch a bus, prefer his idea of the local taxi firm (10% discount for campers)

Well, went back down to Weymouth took the grandaughter, East Fleet Farm, horrendous 8 hr drive down, so was glad to finally get there.
Took a bus to view Durdle door, glad we did as the parking was £30 to park the van for the day wow, wasn’t expecting the climb down to the beach, lol. The view was good though, glad we did it but the hike back up is not for the faint hearted.

Love durdle door! Yeah the walk down and climb back up definitely gets the legs and lungs working. I’m glad there was a thumbs up picture to go with the thumbs down one 👍
I live just under an hours drive from DD, and often drive down to Ringstead and walk the coast path to Lulworth Cove and back, and in fact I did it yesterday.... 10 miles all in all, with all the ups and downs.

During the pandemic, once the lockdowns were relaxed, I was down there two or three times a week, and got involved with cleaning the mess up that all the dirty lazy buggers had carried down the hill to the beach and couldn't be bothered to carry their rubbish back to the car park.

It was really horrific.... dirty nappies left in the open, human excrement in the caves, disposable BBQ's still smoldering, and raw and cooked food strewn all around. Half eaten watermelons seemed to be the favorite food to leave.

Some crazy things too.... abandoned push chairs, fishing rods, beach shelters, and even an inflatable paddling pool. Truly mind blowing!

Pics below are after the team of volunteers had bagged some of the rubbish up, waiting to be carried up the steps to where it could be chucked in a trailer. This was just one pile, the were others spread along the beach waiting to be moved too. In Man 'O War bay next door, the scene was just the same. For quite a while, every day was rinse and repeat......

Best add that the guy in the second pic isn't me....
