That's a mind-blowingly vast wilderness - we've got nothing even approaching that scale in continental Europe, let alone in the UK.Just come home from 8 days in the Flinders Ranges. It's about 7 hours north of where I live.
We went mountain biking each day in a very old arid landscape. Slept in the van each night. The weather is getting colder now as we approach winter so the diesel heater was appreciated.
The area is very sparcially populated with large sheep and cattle stations which can be of enormous square miles.
The is also a large National Park amongst the private property.
Very dry at the moment and dusty.View attachment 289900View attachment 289901View attachment 289902View attachment 289903
Do like the colour of your set up the brown canvas. The vehicle appears light grey/green but it might be the reflection of the foliage and it looks cool and muted blends into the environment.Same Dutch campsite at a WWI fortress I posted 2 days ago. I kinda like this shot 'cos it has my mate's Disco II camping setup in it too.
He uses a huge roof rack mounted 270 deg. folding awning with added sidewalls creating a big tent around the side and back of the Disco. The Disco is an ex commercial vehicle that only has front seats. There is a permanent bed in the back on top of two full length slide-out drawers. Surprisingly the bed has the same size as our pop top bed.
This setup is not nearly as quick and easy come & go as our van but once set up, it looks really good and always draws a lot of attention. Camping with them, we never worry about getting stuck somewhere. The slab of concrete we're on used to be the foundation for the canons.

That was a very sensible plan. Using a sail and Tent work shop too. They should now how to make things storm proof. An awning both sides? Thanks @Kind of Blue
When the builder ordered the roof (Austops), I asked them to order a couple of meters extra canvas. I got the awning made from same canvas by a tent & sail workshop. It's ermm... very sturdy for an awning but looks great and should last a really long time. We have roof rails on both sides too, which is convenient with two sliding doors.
