Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

11th/12th June, arrived at Camping Chez Philipaud, near Barbezieux-st-Hilaic between Angouleme and Bordeaux, very rural site in the middle of nowhere, run by an English couple, there was us and a Dutch couple, it was so relaxing we didn’t move the van the whole time we where there
There seems to be a theme of 'packed' campsites this week! Great time to go away!

That site looks right up my street, thanks. Great website. Vivante in coming October 2026

Friday 13th June, drove to the coast to check out a campsite at Fouras, when we found it, it’s now a “camper-car” site, so didn’t stay.
Checked on park4night and found a site north of La Rochelle called Camping Animal King - I should have know by the initial’s of the place CAK, it was the worst campsite I have ever stayed on, so a warming to the t6forum please avoid

We’re not far from La Rochelle, just over the bridge on Ile d’Oleron at Camping Les Saumonards which I would recommend (with a couple of minor caveats)- there’s a couple of posts and pics above. Don’t worry we’ll be going in the morning.

9th and 10th June, Camping Les Roussilles, north of Limoges, nice enough site in a forest, host by a friendly Dutchman, only downside the site is about 200yds from the very busy A20/E9, so at night the traffic noise was very loud.
We visited the village of Oradour-sur-Glane a really sad place, 10th June 1944 elements of the 2nd SS Panzer division Massacred 642 civilians men, women, children and babies in the most disturbing way and then demolished the village, that’s all I want to say
yeah, hideous 😢

should anyone be interested but too lazy to google:

Hayfield (Peak District) and Cwmdu (Black Mountains E of Brecon) were ideal for great extensive tabbing from Site. Good facilities and Pubs on the doorstep, both recommended…

We paid the bill at Camping Les Saumonards whoch works out at a bargain £20 per night with ACSI and had a late start today so didn't get in that many miles before another stop for the night. We're now at Camping Moulin de Campeche near Villefranche de Queyran about 30 miles short of Toulouse from Bordeaux. Lovely site set in a valley with an old water mill. It's run by two brits who've been here for 26 years - highly recommended at £23 ACSI price. We will probably make another stop elsewhere before hitting the coast in South of France and our aim is to be pitched there by Thursday (adblue warnings permitting - see Post 76 here:Ad-Blue - 650 mile countdown comes and then goes off)
