OK, I am able to give a more detailed update, and answer to your question now.
While we were away, I noticed that the (6mm) beading on the Kador attachment was coming out of my (Reimo) awning rail:

I discussed this issue with Funky Leisure (Debus suppliers), and ultimately concluded that it's just bad luck for me - no point exchanging it, as they have not had anyone else raise this issue, and the Kador strips will all be the same anyway.
Setting this aside, I still think it's a great bit of kit, so the best solution I have decided on is to simply deploy my Vango drive-away Kador kit. Not totally ideal, as it adds a few seconds and another few pieces to the setting up process (!!) but it works.
So, with the drive-away Kador deployed, the canopy is of course a few cms further out from the van, but even attached directly to the awning rail, I don't think that the canopy obstructs the side door from opening fully at all - the bit of side material is hanging loose, so the door just pushes it out the way:

For sure, when you zip the (optional) side panels on, the top edge of the door will snag on them if you try to open the door fully. But I think this is probably the same with most if not all awnings?
And since I didn't have a photo of it in canopy only mode before, for anyone who's interested, here's one:
