What Have You Bought Today?

Last week's trip to Mull and experience of single track roads got me thinking about swapping out my Calibre 20inch wheels and so yesterday took the plunge.

Went for Rouge Alloy 17inch alloys with 235/65R17 Cooper ATs to maintain wheel arch clearance.

In researching the buy i discovered my present wheel/tyre combo is not suitable for the Van. the load rating of my 245/40R20 of 93 falls way short of the T28s 100 rating.

If only i knew what i know now when I bought the Van. At least it survived the Mull trip.

Will post pics when fitted

Lookin forward to before and after pics - Glad you didn't have a 'situation' because of that set up!

Rugs for Bugs carpets. Great service, quick delivery (6 days for something made to order isn't bad at all), and they fit like a glove. Rang 'em to talk about my order before I placed it as I didn't want a rubber heel pad in the driver's footwell. I wanted a carpet jobby instead. I went for the 'Luxury Alpine black carpet' with black stitching. Front (1+1 with walk through with a 'Premium Pearl black carpet' heel pad for the driver) and rear Kombi mats (2+1). As well as some door pocket inserts (also in Lux Alpine). I'm a picky one, but v. impressed with the quality and fit. Not silly money either. Recommend. I've seen a couple of negative reviews re: lead times taking ages (not my experience at all). Just pick up the phone and talk to them, always the best way...

How Has the Carpet pad in the drivers footwell faired over the years?

Bought some Gladen one appearance speakers, pressure on to get and fit before leaving for Norway in just over a weeks time.

They are straight forward to fit.
Getting the original tweeter out of the A trim and boring out the rivets on the door speakers is the hardest bit. I used a wee grinder on the plastic welds that hold the tweeters in place to remove them.
Definitely sound deaden your doors and back of door cards when they are off.
It will make your investment sound twice as good.

Yeah I suspect I’ll end up leaving fitting till I get back which means I’ll be in less of a rush.

1x Devonport wheel from @T6 dork, to replace the wheel I cracked a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone else managed to crack a Devonport? I thought these wheels were robust, but I don't recall any severe pothole incidents and there's definitely been no mounting of the kerb. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I managed to get 2 cracked Velare 20's before I put better deeper rubber on, I had both welded up for spares, which now occupy a fair chunk of space in the garage.
£55 each to have them welded, if you have the space and £55 spare, worth doing on the cracked one.
It could be a 'feature' coffee table, footstool or candle holder?!

I have a set taking up space in a barn I will take over a sledge hammer and see if I can crack them. Is that the latest fashion I do not want to be left behind and be the most unfashionable guy in town? :cautious: Things are getting worse!

Well spotted though (although that doesn't help you!)
There must be many cracked alloys being used on our roads every day by unknowing drivers and unless you are inspecting them properly, damage like that, on the inside rim, could go unnoticed for months.

Haha - afraid I can't take any credit for proactively inspecting. Parked the car alongside the van and noticed the FNS tyre was all but flat!

Called AA out to, hopefully, effect a temp plug repair, but he couldn't find a puncture. Soapy water along the rims and the crack was revealed.

It's made me think long and hard about the wisdom of potentially running 20s.

The difference in profile between 275/40/20 and 215/60/17 is an actual measurement of 3/4 of an inch. Bearing in mind the higher pressures those van tyres run at I’m not sure the real sidewall difference will make so much of a difference to potential for cracking.
That’s purely based on a hunch rather than any scientific or anecdotal evidence of course.
