What Have You Been Listening To Today?

All are four except for one fiver, but I'm not a fan and it doesnt come out much. Players tend to either dig a fiver or they dont. Low B sounds muddy and horrible to me, and I dont buy into the "its an entirely different instrument" nonsense .

For the rare occasions I need to go south of low E on stage I prefer a detuner effects pedal than a fiver.
So, I am a little uneducated in Guitars electric, not ever played one, why so many of a similar thing? Is it the feel, the touch of an electric instrument or is it the electronics? I remember from my past with friends and relatives that where in bands that some may like certain manufacturers pick ups more than anothers and may in fact change the pickups over to achieve the best of both worlds say a Gibson and a Fender or some other modification or is it the romance and appearance, one electric guitar is not quite like another more chalk and cheese perhaps?
There are also 6 string bass is that to provide different tuning or availability or is it more to do with satisfying a traditional guitar player more used to 6 strings?
Do you ever play a stand up Bass, they make a different softer sound though I have notice some electronic stand up bass being played by some celebrity or another?

Different sounds, feel, even weight. The green one to the left is a good combo of weight, sound, and has a nice feeling "rolled" neck so is my main gigging bass, a nice sounding low fatigue bit of kit. Ita a Sire P5 Marcus Miller with Geezer Butler pups if anyone is interested. It'd also not too valuable so isn't the end of the world if it were damaged or stolen.

The black Geddy Lee Jazz Bass has a good range of tones so is my main bass for DI when in the studio or recoding online from home. It's expensive though, so I'm reluctant to leave the house with that one.

Very few of them are completely standard, most with upgraded pups, electrics, bridges, etc.

The rest have different sounds for my own pleasure, and different feels so I stay current across a wide range of different feeling instruments. I've done session jobs before where the producer insists I bring a particular bass, or I'm instructed to use one provided, so to be able to play anything smoothly without taking time to adapt is important.

Don't ask me which is my favourite though!

I'm mainly a Fender man for bass and a Gibson man for geetars.

This past week's music selection for the commute to work has been a mix of Volbeat, Ferocious Dog, The Levellers and a bit of Shanghai Treason.

Well doing a bit of shopping on the West Wales Coast this morning, just supermarket stuff, I usually stay in the vehicle because I get in the way and can only find certain things and definitely can not find things that I detest, Bovril  & Marmite  for example haha! I people and car watch, marvelling at the parking antics of people trying to park in the busiest parts of the car park while driving at speed past the empty places, usually the youngest drivers, and watching some take extraordinary time and antics to squees into spaces. I listen to the radio often tuning in to the Irish Stations on FM, I have them preset so just select and I have about 5 or 6 and like the traditional Irish folk music or classical station or listen to the news on topics not having the same bias as those stations at home. On occasion I uses manual tune to see if I can find something different and today must be a day of Skip, due to the atmospherics and sunspots etc. I was twiddling away a small bit at a time and found a new station and thought that’s not the Gale Talk or Gaelic that’s Spanish! Then another I believe was Portuguese as clear as day or as the BBC. Unfortunately my radio hopping came to an end eventually when the grocery lady, Mrs Kind of Blue started packing things away but not before I had tuned into a French station and then a German station. Wow that was amazing one does occasionally find the odd station here usually Irish but to receive stations from around Europe all in very different parts is quite remarkable. So If any one has time to twiddle today have a go. Usually these things drift in and out but on this occasion they where very strong and that was using the Caravelle radio and ridiculously poor mirror antennas. :(

So for the Radio Hams on here, today might be a good day for you guys to get your ears on and see how far you can get out their!:waving:

Bit of Beastie Boys this last seek. I've got a few weekends depping coming up for a band in Essex while their clank-plank man is working away so I'm having to expand my repertoire a touch.

Essex is handy as my Dad lives there, so I'll crash in the fan on his driveway.

The Original Amy Winehouse band in Wallingford last night. Really amazing live set headlining and closing out the Bunkfest25 festival. A good few 1000 people there at an excellent free festival.

An eclectic mix for me. Im back with Saddam and the Ants in Derby in July, so need to learn a load of AATA and 80s choons. You've possibly heard of Elvana - this is a similar sort of thing.

You havent lived until you've played live with a Saddam Hussein impersonator, moustache, sunglasses, beret, medals and all, singing Born in the USA.
