UK to Germany Import - T6 Rear fog light solution?

I've just moved from the UK to Germany and I'm in the process of registering my VW T6 T32 Transporter here in Germany.

I need to somehow find a solution to move the RH fog light to LH side or I can keep the RH one and install a second light on the LH side so i have 2 fog lights.
I currently have Transporter HQ LED units on the rear. My first thought was that I can buy the LHD versions of their rear lamps but I need somehow to get power to the left side.

Does anyone have advice on how to go about doing this?

You could buy used T6 oem LED units, which just need a re-pin or conversion loom. Will give you twin reversing and twin rear fogs

If the fog light is within a certain distance of the main light cluster (I think it's in the region of 130mm) you can legally have only one in the UK or EU for vehicles manufacturered since the 90s.

So your options are to have the van reconfigured to swap the fog to the opposite side, or move it down somewhere like the bumper. The latter is probably easier but not as neat.

Ok cool. I will have to measure how much distance there is between the fog light and the main brake light in that unit. I don't mind having just a left side one, if I can get the power to that side. Or like you say a stand alone one below the bumper or even above the doors if that works.

I'm not familiar with how this is all done, I'm hoping for the least invasive option as the inside is all carpeted and sealed up with no access to the rear lighting loom.

I'm sure it's not beyond the wit of a car sparky to rewire it and hide their work and leave everything in ordnung.

You can have a UK offside or single middle light but there's nothing stopping you having 2 , so if there's actually lamps in both rear lights then surely you've just got to link the 2 sides togther .
Under the threshold strip or even behind the bumper

Regulations are stopping him having two. If they're in the light clusters he can lawfully only have one, the idea behind the regs being to prevent a following vehicle thinking the vehicle ahead is suddenly braking when they're flicked on.

If they're separate from the main clusters and more than a certain distance from them you can have two.

I've never never heard of anyone in the UK falling foul of vehicle lighting regs by adtivating fog lights in the second cluster, but I don't know how zealous the Deutsche Behorden will be when out chap tries to register his van over there.

Many if not most of my motors have had fogs both sides and I've never had any probs over the past 30 years . ..can't speak for whatever hoops they make the OP jump through to register it mind you .
Either way if you physically have lamps fitted you could just use the wiring to route to the other side and disable the original if needed.

Im not familiar with the THQ lighting units you have but if the foglight is present on the other side then all you need is a few metres of wire and a JPT crimp to go in the empty slot in the wiring plug and you can have the other foglight working (with or without the original one)
Wire and crimp are only a couple quid and a couple hours to install and connect the wire

Thank you @Pauly ! This is exactly what i was thinking i could do!

Would it be as simple as removing the fog light power pin on the right, removing the VW crimp on the wire and and joining with a water proof inline connector? Or is there another connector that allows me to keep the VW crimp on the end incase I want to revert it back in the future?

I'm not sure at the moment if the THQ lights have a Fog light on the left. (I have these ones) I did try the left unit on the right side and the fog didn't come on. I'm not sure if that test should work or not though, perhaps the fog light in the left is just empty. The right hand light has an extra resistor connected, I also swapped that to the left hand unit and tried it again on the right side but it still didn't work. Hope that made sense!?

I was debating buying the THQ LHD LED set which i assume would flip everything OR just switch to OEM EU LHD Halogens. Then I would just bring the power over. I don't really mind at the moment, the main priority is getting it through the TÜV inspection.

The TÜV didn't specify details, they just said I could have one fog on the left or one each side.

This issue is just one of many, as always the German bureaucracy is very enjoyable here!

I’m not sure about the setup on LHD vans but UK RHD vans that left the factory with halogen rear lights only have 5 wires going to each of the 6 pin connectors for the rear lights, one side is missing the fog supply and the other is missing the reverse lamp supply
Vans that leave the factory with LED rear lights have all 6 pins populated in both sides and have 2 x foglights and 2 x reverse lights

If I was you I think I would run 2 wires side to side in the rear and populate those empty slots and tag the wires into the relevant one on the other side
