Tyre swapping front to back..

Hi all,

Canvassing opinion - I’ve generally always swapped front to back once the fronts start to wear so I can buy four new when the time comes. However went to local tyre place and they said with a van its best to keep those with most tread left on the rear especially if carrying loads (which I do reasonably regularly). Got a long road trip to France pending and I’ll be fully loaded so obviously want to be as grippy as possible.

Opinions welcome just out if interest really. 4motion currently wearing Nokian Weatherproof (which aren’t wearing as well as i had hoped!) That said I’m more used to a defender with BF Goodrich that I get 70k out of!

Cheers

Why not get some B F Goodrich on your 4Motion T6.... Swamper style!?

I don’t see why you wouldn’t swap them if you want them to wear evenly.

I have a 4Motion on Nokia Weatherproofs and after about 15K miles the rears are barely worn while the fronts are about half worn, with at least 4 mm left.
If I want to replace them as a set of 4, i.e. for a different brand, then swapping front and rear is my best option or I will have to replace the fronts and then at a much later date replace the set of 4.
I understand what the tyre depot are saying but if you slam the brakes on in an emergency the front tyres are still going to be doing most of the braking.

My thoughts exactly! I’m at about 10k mileage but experiencing the same as you tyre wear wise - pretty sure I’m going to swap them front to back. Then when the time comes see what else is around that compares the Nokians as I need them ‘snow’ rated.

I'm going to swap mine front to rear.
On the few occasions I have used the Nokians in a bit of light snow I was impressed with them. They have the snowflake (3PMSF) symbol on them.
