Tyre pressures for 18" wheels

I have tried 50psi in the front and it's way too much for a nice drive , so I've experimented over the years and found that 38 in the front or even 36 is ok , and 48 in the rears suited the van the best with the load that I normally carry

Bringing this thread back to life from the dead

I've just downsized to 18" alloys and restored suspension to OEM on my T6 T32 Kombi, and trying to figure out the pressure to run this with. Do the people who posted the sticker photos with the pressures run T32s? I know @Chopman runs a T30, but does @HHO ? I'm ignoring the Sportline pressure card photo as it seems to be way off the marker from the general comments on this thread.

Does it make any difference between a T30 or a T32? My T6 is not a work van, it has a three seat bench in the middle and carries four mountain bikes at most at the back, so is quite light on the weight side of things.

I have a T32, with 18” sportlines, and run the pressures on the card, get no issues with uneven tyre wear.

T30 with 255’s 18’s. Running pressure as per sticker with no issues. Had some outside edge cupping some time ago but a rebalance sorted it.

I have a T32, with 18” sportlines (run the van heavy), and run the pressures on the card, 50 psi all round. get no issues with uneven tyre wear.

I get about 10k out of the stock vanco conties.

I will be on 255/45/18 later this week and will be running 38psi all round as per sport line spec (but on steels the same size as the sportline wheels)

FWIW:

here is a few pics of the front Vanco Conti - fitted from New, just done 10K so have a few K`s left on them.

50PSI all round (from new) T32 PV (running heavy) with FWD + DSG.

its a firm ride with the stock sportline suspension, but if i run lower pressures with the weight, the van gets all soupy in the bends and the rims can bottom out in pot-holes + speed ramps !

I've done just over 10k on mine and they look about the same as yours. Been running mine at what the plated tells you though went for the higher presure

I’m running Continentals too. Coming up to 18k on mine with a front/rear rotation at 10k. Currently at 3mm all round. Pressures as per sticker plate on 255/18’s

So. Would 235/55s be the same as the 255/45s in terms of pressure? I have just put some nokians on 18'' wheels. Thanks.

Hi, bud, quick questions what is the max inflation pressure on these tyres? Does it show that on the tyre wall?

Hi, sorry to bump this but hoping for some tyre pressure help.

I have a 2013 T5 startling Kombi that has had Sportline alloys fitted. The tyres are 255/45 ZR18 103Y XL with a load rating of 875kg, BUT it says the maximum tyre pressure is 44psi.

Looking at the recommended pressures this would suggest that running unloaded I would have to be using the max pressure, at least on the front. Can this be right? If I ever want to use it for carrying larger loads (I got it as a day van and in process of converting, but also wanted to be able to use it for transporting furniture and building supplies etc) will I need to get new tyres?

Thanks in anticipation!

Hi.. So to understand is it printed/embossed on the tyre wall max pressure 44psi. ( on my Michelin tyres it states 50psi ) Photo would confirm…so id contact tyre dealer as you may be on car derived tyres and not van Xl tyres :)

My Goodyear tyres also state 50 psi max pressure. The sticker plate in my drivers door states 44psi front and 36psi rear for light loads.

Yep, it's saying max pressure 44psi. Would a car have a load rating of 875kg though? We bought it from the local independent VW specialist (it was his personal van) so kind of assumed it would be pukka. Photos for reference:
