I think the 4 year time limit was just a money spinner for vw commercial uk. I had to change my vans belt at 4 years about 38,000 miles as I had taken out an extended warranty and the dealer insisted. At the time I asked the workshop why if my van was registered and being used in Germany there was no time period and a 200,000 km distance for the belt replacement but for the same vehicle in the UK it was 4 years. No answer. I asked to see the “ old “ belt when it was taken off and I would have struggled to tell it from the new one being fitted. Needless to say it won’t be getting done again for a more realistic time/distance.

I’m was expecting my VW ‘all in’ service and warranty plan to insist I changed the belt/pump also, but this gives me hope. Thanks

Really, mine is in now and quoted nearly £600 for just the rear.
Had the cambelt and water pump done in July for £800 at 65,000 miles and 4.5 years.

Parts from Europarts around £425 plus 2.5 hrs labour is the Indy rate. Takes your choices!

Really, mine is in now and quoted nearly £600 for just the rear.
Had the cambelt and water pump done in July for £800 at 65,000 miles and 4.5 years.

Maybe mine requires cheaper parts? This is the screenshot from VWCV website. For ref my van is a 2018 102bhp shuttle.

I have just priced up the parts myself, on reflection I now think that vws price is less expensive than I did initially

Local Transporter specialist did my brakes and pads all round plus a full fluid change for £600.

Probably good to note the front brake disc / pad differences if they are fitted with 'T32' larger front brakes when giving.. 'it shouldn't be that much' prices.

Spot on! I should have worked out the parts price alone before reacting to the vw price. The dealer actually comes in at around £830 for all 4 corners plus brake fluid at £70 so £900 all done. More expensive but more convenient, I’ll get a quote from an indy and maybe ask the dealer to price match.

we have a 2019 150bhp T6 and I believe it’s due a timing belt change every 120000 miles or 4 years. We’ve only got 37000 on the clock but I presume we should still make sure they change the belt yes?

Have 2017 T6 on 26k. Contacted my local VW Van dealer ( JTC Hull). Great news, they tell me VW UK have recently changed guidelines to follow EU rules.
Now 140000 miles with no time constraint. Nice New Year present !!?

Hi all, I’m getting confused with different messages from different sources! I’ve had my T6 since new (16 plate) and now have done 59,000 miles, question is…when do I need to change my timing belt/cambelt? HELP!!!

It changed a few months back to 140000 miles, no time limit. Personally I’d do it before then given the consequences of failure but that’s a personal choice.

Cheers, I’m good for a few more miles then!! I've never known much about engines etc all I do know is I’ve only ever had VW vans since forever I did have a belt go on me in my T4 and that’s something I don’t want to experience ever again

check your crank case oil seal is still ok if not a good one to do at the same time and obviously changing the water pump with timing belt is a no brainer

Will do all the above cheers, I’m a decorator and know zilch about engines, if my display says do this or that I just get it done
