As far as I am aware, Bull Bars are not legal and a nudge bar is very similar. I believe it has something to do with pedestrian safety. The only exception that I can recall are some of the bars that Landrover fitted OEM to one of their models? It was made of plastic/foam and was deformable. You may find, that were you to cause personal injury to someone as a direct result of the bars, may cause you additional problems over and above what might be the norm.

You are incorrect

Oh, that is interesting.

General requirements

It is not illegal for vehicles to be fitted with bull bars, although the department would not recommend their fitment unless it has been shown, through compliance with specified safety standards, that they do not pose an additional risk of injury to pedestrians or other vulnerable road users.

There are no plans for legislation to require bull bars that are already fitted to be removed. However, since 25 May 2007, it has been an offence for bull bars that have not been approved as compliant with those safety standards to be sold. Approved devices will carry an indelible ‘e’ mark (for example: e1 01 1471).

What part of this do you comply and where am I incorrect. Was your car constructed before 2007 and does your bar carry and indelible ‘e’ mark?

I am really really confused about this issue. Years ago, quite some time before the said date, practically the whole 4x4 world in the UK became aware of the issues concerning bull bars. We were told by the 4x4 press that they had become illegal. Bull bars were very popular. Most venues just stopped selling them, most if not all users that had them, removed them. From that time very few 4x4 sported them and venues continued not to sell them. Even to day, I cannot recall seeing a bull bar except very rarely on a transit or similar. So I am quite stunned.

You said “As far as I am aware, Bull Bars are not legal and a nudge bar is very similar.”

The official guidance that I linked to says that “It is not illegal for vehicles to be fitted with bull bars.”

Therefore you are incorrect.

Also, nowhere does it says anything about vehicles being constructed before or after 2007 - 25 May 2007 is the date at which it became illegal to SELL non-compliant bars. The year my car/van was constructed is irrelevant. You are incorrect again.

For all you know I might have bought the bar prior to 2007 so it doesn’t need to carry any indelible mark, however I didn’t, I bought it in 2020 and I bought it from a reputable company who only sell E-marked/TUV bars - it has a plate showing the compliance rivetted onto it and a certificate. Unlike cheap fleabay bars.

Now kindly get back in your box.

I think you should keep it on know you were initially unsure think it looks great with the wheels

I do not believe that I need step down from anything. Bars that are fitted need to comply with the law, if yours comply then there is nothing for you to be concerned about so far as mounting it. The owner of the vehicle may be required to show documentation possibly as you say the bar is marked being sufficient under criminal law If involved in an accident with a person the they may try and find cause to sue as some do. However if it was a civil case however then things might be very different and a different view might be taken.

Now from my part. I had no intention or did I castigate you. I mealy said what I thought was fact and what concequences of that might be as they once were. Reading over many accounts I can see that having banned bars originally, that allowances where then made for bars constructed to satisfy displaying an e mark. I was unaware that the Law had changed yet again. Though I ought to have realise that because I knew that Landrover had a specialised bar that obviously complied with something but I did not display enough curiosity to delve deeper.

So I apologise for generalising and not understanding that Laws are constantly evolving and that I was out of date by some time with what is current legislation.

Finally got my hands on the T6 T32 shuttle. Ordered front and rear parking sensors and Rear reverse camera from carsystems.eu - Retrofits Specialists - Car OEM Parts, need to work out how to fit them soon. Already enquired about duchy's banded wheels. Want 19inch banded, 9" front and 10" in the rear, for that euro look.
Tyres that he recommends are not t32 legal, so any advice appreciated.
ABT front, rear and spoiler - coming soon.

Hi all, some great looking vans on here!

Picked my first T6 Kombi up last week from Leighton Vans (have had a T4 previously). Can highly recommend them and the staff there, great service.

Been lingering on here for a few weeks now, getting plenty of ideas of what to do. Already put the secondary door seal on the front doors which was a worthwhile addition. Looking to get a leisure battery and charging solution sorted next and then figure the rest out as we use it more.

Looking to see how I can stick my subwoofers in first. Anyone know of any good custom enclosure makers? need to do the impossible and stick 2 15inch subs over the wheel arches.
