[T6_measured] 01-Engine - Oil pressure switches & Oil level sensor

Oi pressure regulating valve location . Between alternator and air con pump. Picture from under. You need to remove front engine mount bracket to make more space. Bracket bolted with 3 16 mm bolts, one of them is on top, hard to reach plus another one on engine rubber mount on subframe. Valve held by T30

can someone tell me what is what is correct / current part number with current suffix letter on end for oil pressure regulator (bottom of engine) 04L 906 455? and where are you getting them from main stealer or after market, getting electrical fault on vcds and I'm a tight git and don't want to pay deal prices:speechless:

I looked everywhere to try to get an aftermarket, or even a discounted original part and couldn't get one anywhere. I think 'j' is the latest suffix.
In the end decided to just take it to the garage. Only cost me an hour labour. Came in at just over £200 done. Some of the online prices were showing as well over £150 and the genuine part on my invoice from the garage was only about £120 and that was genuine from TPS.
So if you want to do it yourself I'd just go to TPS or VW and be guaranteed the correct part and the latest revision.

thanks , as you have said google throws up all different prices and suffix, i need to change front engine mount so will try vw or tps just to on safe side.

Bought mine from Deutsche parts for £145 delivered. Saved trip to dealer. Mine was with letter B and asked updated with J but they send me with B as they said its correct one

I got mine in german ebay for 39€, with b at the end, works fine, tested with oil pressure gaugeIMG_7234.webp

Hey all,
Following this thread after having the flashing coil light of doom with ‘P164B00 Oil pressure switch: Malfunction’
Have since had the brown pressure switch changed, but alas the problem is still there.

Similar to others, occurs around 2k rpm when the engine is warming up. Doesn’t put me into limp mode or limit my speed at all, although stop-start does begin erroring.
A quick restart once the engine is warm and it doesn’t come on all day. Otherwise van drives perfect.

I don’t have access to a VCDS, however I have got a Carista w/subscription, and also the car scanner app (which I much prefer to Carista)

Unfortunately I don’t see an option to run the VCDS test y’all are mentioning (maybe I’ll try and find someone near Oxford that has one I can borrow), but I have tried plotting the oil switch against engine RPM on my drive this morning and this is what I seem to get.
(Drive was only about 10mins, but we did get up to normal oil temps about 3/4 through (roughly when the oil switch kicked in 🧐)

Strangely there’s nada from the oil switch until a little further into my drive when the engine warms up and then suddenly it starts registering.
Have attached a screen grab of this.

Any ideas? Does this look as though it could be another oil pressure regulating valve?

I would just replace the valve and be done with it, it’s rarely the sensors with this fault!

@Poliver24 can you rev it over 3000rpm, obviously not when stationary. But with mine it wouldn’t let me rev the van above 3000rpm, the oil changeover valve failed the output test and replacing that fixed the issue.
The garage had already swapped out both oil pressure switches without success.

Ah for sure I will if it seems to be likely that this is at the root, seems like a relatively inexpensive fix 🤞

Ah, I had missed this! Just tried it today and right indeed, it did stop me going over 3K revs.

Drove the rest of the almost 200 miles up to North wales without another hitch yesterday though

Seems like maybe the regulating valve is worth a shot, already booked in with a garage later this week, so maybe I’ll try and point them that way, or see if they’ll run the VCDS test

Just get the oil changeover valve done. I booked mine in at my local VW indi and told them it was the changeover valve. So they scanned it and the oil pressure switch fault came up so they replaced them both because ‘it’s always the oil pressure switches’. And you guessed it-EML came back on.
So had to book it back in then for the changeover valve.
If they are happy to do the output test for the changeover valve then great, but if you let them loose to do a diagnostic (or scan) then they will play parts darts with the fault codes without delving deeper.
I want too fussed about having the switches replaced incorrectly as mileage was about 140k and they are cheap items that do fail, so a bit of preventative maintenance is always good.

I just got it too. Bloody typical. Just been in the garage for work underneath as well. Gonna ask garage about the oil changeover valve bein done first.

You can use my VCDS to run the changeover valve test if you want. Assuming my cable works with your van. It's a bit hit/miss with stuff post 2017.

That's very kind Si. I got heavy heavy work weeks for the foreseeable so am gonna struggle t do anything extracurricular at the moment. I think I'm gonna have to throw myself upon the mercy of my local indy. Glad I have lots of overtime comn. What sort of money did you pay for changeover valve swap?

I think it was about £230 incl labour and VAT over at IVS in Hudds. I'm sure Mark will love to do another one lol.
Still worth doing the quick scan and test so you know what part needs doing.

I've got a similar issue, taking it into local VW indy. I asked if they had VCDS and they said yes so I'll try and steer them towards doing a check on the valve rather than the general diagnostic check. Then to try and see if I can get any money back off the garage I bought it from as only had it just under 2 months. Thanks for the valuable info so far.
