T6 Front Bench Baby Seat recommendations

Can anyone recommend a top quality baby seat (newborn) for a t6 front bench, thanks in advance.

Hi, did you manage to find one? We’re also looking for a baby seat to fit to front bench in our T6. We have custom converted our van into camper van. But doesn’t have the standard rear seating. Only custom built corner rear seating. We now have a grandson that we’d like to take out in it now and again.

Hi. We are excited new owners of a 2018 T6 highline. We have a 5 month old baby. Her current 0+ car seat goes on the front bench. The seat belt just fits round to secure it. When we change to the next car seat up, I'm worried it won't fit in the front and the seat belt will be too short. Less of a concern is that we won't have space for one of us to fit too in the front. The seat belt in back on rock and roll bed also too short. No isofix. Any advice, suggestions or reassurance most welcome please?!

I was put in a carry cot on the back seat of my Dad's Marina. Being a 2 door, they figured with no rear doors to fling open, at least I wouldn't end up out on the road. I'm still here.

You'll probably find that the next seat up will clip in in a way that requires much less belt to be used.
Tru, they tend to run through the back, should be no issue.

We used to sit in the back of my Dad's Escort van, and take turns sitting on the tool box

We’ve got a seat that the belt slips through the back of the chair. That’s in the car. The van set up is a booster fixed in with the isofix and a toddler chair also with isofix in the back. I was surprised how good the set up was in the back. Shame no isofix on the passenger captains seat.

Consider changing the bed/bench seat for on with isofix.....the law has changed and “booster seats” are banned. You’re a long way away from that but if you’re planning on keeping the van....!
We have elected to invest in the van as our family van (two boys aged 6 and 8) - I wish I had bought a van when the first was born!

We have 3 car seats in ours - 2 on the rock and roll seat in the back (2 year old and a 2 week old) and a booster seat in the front for our 6 year old next to my wife on the double bench seat. No issues with the seat belts and as others have said, the newborn car seat requires a longer length of seatbelt than the others. Space is a little cramped on the double bench for my wife, but not as bad as with another adult in the front.

If you’re interested, the car seats that we have are a Cosatto All in All for the newborn (apparently fits from birth to 12 years so you should get a good amount of use out of it for the money - I haven’t tried it with our eldest, but the 2 year old fits in it no problem and had been using it for the past 6 months until the little one arrived), a Cosatto Zoomi for the 2 year old and a Cosatto Ninja for the 6 year old (All Cosatto, I know - my wife wanted all the same pattern to match with the colour of our camper conversion). Of the three, the all in all takes up by far the most length of car seat. In rear facing mode it just fits on the r+r seat.

On a slightly related point, I recently ordered a folding seat bracket with better recline from vankraft to hopefully help with the space on the front seat (not fitted yet). The car seat for the eldest sits forward a bit of the seat back because of the difference in recline between the car seat and the bench seat. It should also make for a more comfortable seating position for my wife and the folding seat should come in handy.

Had a bit of a nightmare in December when I collected the 2 year old up from nursery only to find that the sliding door had frozen shut. I had to pass her over into the back then climb over the passenger seat myself (in a car park full of other parents collecting children from nursery) to get her into the back seat then open the sliding door from inside. The folding seat should hopefully come in handy should that happen again. I’ve also had an intermittent problem with the sliding door not opening with the remote or when the keys are removed from the ignition, but this can be overcome by using the key in the lock or opening from the inside. Again in the event that the key or inside handle trick doesn’t work then at least I can get the kids out through the front over the folding seat.

I’ve got two recaro manza nova seats which have the impact shield so can be used from the early seat (about a year) up to they no longer need them. The belt on our double bench in the front is just long enough to work with it but there is no chance of getting two of them in the front though we can get the 2 side by side in the rock and roll bed in the back. I really like these seats (we have 4 as I have 2 in my BMW too) but the only downside is that they aren’t the smallest!

trying to find some suggestions about a baby seat for a 6 month old - bought a Joie seat and it fits on the back bench seat (also the bed) using the seat belt.facing forward. I think all babies now have to have rear facing seats. Has anyone had iso fixings put in and if so would they stop the back bench being used as a bed? Any thoughts gratefully received!

I don’t think you will be able to retrofit isofix connections to an existing r&r bed but there are a couple you can buy which have them, I’m sure RIB do them and can still be used as a bed. I looked into a bit but kids are a little older and was happy using a seatbelt with the kids seats which gave a better selection (and wider price range) of options.

That's so kind of you to reply so quickly. Judging by the lack of info on all my searches I think you are right. It's a new conversion and the baby seat (well padded with air bags etc) fits snugly onto the rear bench seat/bed and it very secure, forward facing. I'm getting in touch with Cambee in Devon who did an amazing job and perhaps they have a solution. The trouble with iso fixings I think it means you can't pull out the bed - so defeats the camper option. Very grateful for your help

No Problem. It’s been a year or two since we had a ‘baby’ seat but have had the small maxi cosi one (cabriofix and then pebble) and these were good. Used them in our cars with the isofix base but then could use in grandparents etc easily with just the seatbelt. We never had the van at this point. Maybe worth a look as gives you rear facing etc but will likely only last up to 15 months or so which is when we moved to the recaro monza seats I mentioned above which are forward facing.

Are you sure you dont have isofix fixtures? My 2+1 rear seats have got them.. shove your fingers to see if you can feel for the bar. Shame the front Passengers captain seat doesn't have them.. safety I guess...

Yes, I checked with the conversion guys - no luck. The Joie seat is attached with the seat belt so that's something, but as I say it is forward facing and not the best option for little babies. The car seat will last up to toddler and beyond. I think I need to find out if I can get iso fixing done, and be able to use the bed! You never think off all these things when you start out.

When your parents used the maxi cost one with seat belt, was that forward facing? and was it when your kids were babies?

It was rear facing and yes we used it from birth. Will see if I can find a typical photo of it. It was the carrycot type that you can then get pram adapters etc for to clip the whole thing direct to a problem as well.

I’m a fan of the isofix - thankfully our rear bench/bed has them as do the individual rear seats (great for carting the kids’ mates without their mother tut tutting at me!)

I specifically asked for ISOFIX option on the rear seat/bed when we did spec for conversion. So it doesn’t stop it working as a bed.
Big question is if they can be retrofitted. Suggest you contact the firm that fitted the bed/seat for you b
