T6.1 SOS fault.

This may be related, dunno.
I got the attached messages directly on my head unit display.

I accepted.the update, but of couse nothing noticeable happened.
I did not have the SOS error before, though.

Had a software update install on my head unit (Discover Pro with virtual cockpit) today. Instantly had the SOS not working warning pop up and the cruise control stopped working.
Pulled into the next services, switched off the ignition, and then restarted and it all restored.
So based on my small amount of experience, the SOS issue feels more likely to be software related than battery related if it has happened in the last couple of weeks.

had the same SOS message on dash -T6.1 2021 ,found a battery on Ebay for £85 .replaced the old one and then cleared telematics faults with VCDS . sos message did not cleared on first two attempts -I suspect the new battery needs about 20 minutes to reach 90% charge .did not code anything ,just cleared faults and restored telematics to factory settings .Once SOS cleared the tailgate actuator stoped playing games too ,same with parking lights coming on on its own .

Probably tempting fate in saying so, but still no gremlins on my 2021 6.1.

That said, it lives on a smart charger-maintaner so theres never a dip in system voltage to drain or otherwise upset the SOS battery.

I took my T6.1 to my local VW Service Centre and they cleared the SOS saying it was a software upgrade. Covered under my All In warranty.

Let me tell you my story. My 2020 T6.1 battery died in January. When I replaced the battery, the SOS error appeared. I read your posts, but in the end, I went to the local mechanic. He asked for the battery from the module, but when they replaced it, it continued to show errors, and my mechanic suggested replacing the entire module... over 800 euros. In the end, I paid over 100 euros for his time and I'm still using the old battery. I've cancelled all the services, and nothing has worked. There are no pending updates either. I'm waiting for a solution from an email I sent to VW Spain.

Hi had the same problem, spoke to VW battery totally out of stock of batteries £120 + VAT, MODULE £1700 + VAT, Batteries are on back order for 3 months, got the exact same one from Alibaba I know sounds daunting but was £33 delivered to the door including shipping only took a week to arrive, see images new one and original one, easy enough to change trim off around clocks two screws hold clocks in, pull out one wire plug and sos module sits behind, batteries located in the module under screwed cover on back. Half an hour job max
ALL FIXED hope this thread helps

Hi - I couldn;t see Darran's msg was answered. Was it simply a metter of swapping batteries and using OBD11 to clear fault or does it still need a VW garage to use ODIS to get the system working? I've got the same problem OBD says it's back up and I then got the update software warning which has now dissappeared after we went away for a few days and left the van at home. Ours is T6.1 April2021 vintage 40k.

Yet another 2021 T6.1 which has the SOS restricted message. When I ordered the van I optioned the 5-year warranty which runs until the 31st of March this year.
Phoned the four nearest VW van centres today and the earliest appointment I can get from any of them is mid-April, because of that I have been told that the manufacturers warranty will not cover the repair! I said that I could email a photo today but that's apparently not acceptable either.

That's a bit rubbish ...

Mine was a straight forward swap non-plugging in diagnostics or anything

Got the same on my 71 plate. CARISTA told me the fault codes but VW Van Centre still want £150 to plug it in. I have All In cover so hopefully will be covered. Goes in tomorrow .

I have extended warranty on my 21 plate and they told me it’s not covered as it’s a consumable part.

I have ordered the same battery will be fitting it the weekend to see if it cures my problem.

Thing is there is nothing special about these batteries they are just standard lipo batteries. Why VW think they can charge £105 plus fitting and £150 for diagnosis is beyond me. If the battery isn’t flat as the van is reporting then the fault is in their van dials and should be free to fix, if it is flat then why such a high cost to diagnose and replace, even the cost of the battery isn’t vastly overpriced.

software saying a battery at 95% is knackered, just do a software update that lets the battery get down to 30% capacity before reporting a fault

Seeing as its mandated by legislation, like the adblue system, I doubt VW would allow it to be switchable via software.

This may help , I have had the fault light for the SOS too. Today got an email from VW that might be the reason……

Hi. I had same email. I've activated online, tried to manually instigate software update via the i infotainment. I get the message "error: no data available. Please insert a source with software update data or the check the source. "

What do I do next. I assumed it would download automatically.
