T6.1 Heater blowing Hot-Air only

Do you have the link to the part. I’ve got a t6.1 with the issue

Hi Everyone,
Quick update to my question above to share my experience.
VW's extended warranty covered my vehicle's repairs, which the official dealer completed in over two weeks. Please see the attached pro forma invoice. It looks like a significant job.
I hope that would help someone.

just fixed it today.

I have a 2020 T6.1. Manual.

Key findings:
  • Automatic would have more space since no clutch peddle.
  • After ordering a 5.5mm spanner – it was too small. Both bolts on mine were 6mm!
  • As most know - first bolt was easy, second (concealed) bolt was very awkward. Best to use a standard 6mm spanner (shown below) –

  • Since:
  • 6mm socket set was too deep – not enough room for handle (I know some cut down the socket. I tried – was still too big.
  • 6mm “Ratchet spanner” failed - head was too wide since bolt was too close to edge = see example photo:

As such, I would advise using a non-racket spanner on the hidden fastening.

Removing access to the hidden fixing was VERY trick. If you have a 2020 T6.1 removing some of the dash helps see the hidden bolt.

Note – I actually did not remove the unit fully (didn't fancy trying to get hidden bolt back in) - so I kept the hidden bolt attached (I just loosened it to give 3-4mm of play. Then with the actuator was free to move and spin on the hidden bolt.

I also removed the stereo so I has access to the back of the actuator - removed the broken plastic clip and also removed the black arm. I then fitted the black arm to the new t.61 white clip (ebay). I then placed the white clip in position (not in the actuator - but the back rests on a raised stud – rotated the actuator back onto position, aligned the white clip and snapped it into place. Once there, re-screwed unit in place.

very fiddly, - wear long sleeves and thin gloves to stop your hands getting scratched to bits.

Removed my broken one this morning. Major faff 😬
It only had 2 screws holding it in place, should it have 3? Possibly broken for previous owner?
Now to source the parts.
Made in Switzerland? It's certainly not up to Breitling quality.

Only has 2 screws mate. The replacement part is available from TPS and is different to the t6. It’s only about £30

This one? Is the oem part from TPS as weak as the original one which has broken?

If it helps anyone, I replaired my T6.1 without taking the dash out. I used a magneto spanner I had and a strip of metal with the spanner a light friction fit to get to the awkward screw. When fitting the new one, I cut a thin piece of plastic to push over the screw to keep it captive. I then used a long screwdriver wedged as shown to position the actuator and give access. The spare I bought from TPS was the modified part , I think the survo tries to drive past the end stop and over time flexing causes failure, I am not convinced the modded part won't cause something harder to get to to break so I don't use max hot or cold anymore. Cheers, Rob

Just got in my t6.1 and drove back from the coast where I'm working. Nice sunny day so I turned the temperature dial down probably the first time this year. Within minutes I realized the AC wasn't working then for the rest of the 100 mile trip I had to have the window open as the heating was on full even though the dial was on cold.

Has anyone had this is there anything that needs resetting ?
I am sorry to say I have the same problem with my t6.1.
2020 model with 19000 mile on the clock . I had annual service and mot done 2 weeks ago at breeze vw in Poole. The heating has been stuck on warm for about 3 weeks so asked them to have a look .
When I collected the van I was told the lever in the dash that switches hot / cold had snapped off and needs replacing . The lever costs £36.
Astonishingly they told me it will cost £960 to repair as the whole dash needs to come out .
Had a 2012 t5 for 9 years and 200,000 miles on the clock and never a problem !!!!!
I am beginning to think vw are not worth buying anymore as keep hearing about problems with t6's.
Any suggestions?????

We do a lot of these , even on my own van , supply and install under £200.00 inc a modification to prevent this happening again

We are the same as @Absolut5. We charge around £200 supplied and fitted. Dash definitely doesn’t need to come out.

Just got around to fitting mine back together. Not sure what I've done wrong but can see the servo bumping the stop way too soon, effectively only having hot air. Do these have to be re-learned at all?

Never mind, I'd fitted this piece wrongly :rolleyes:o_O:rolleyes:

I've just got round to doing mine, removed the motor and broken lever, does anyone know how far the motor should rotate from hot to cold?
