Show us your 18s

They are susceptible to corrosion but for people of a certain age... alright me, then they're a lovely bit of bling in a time of 50 shades of gloss black.

wheel look awesome but just a word of caution with polished faces and 'wheel worm' they are more susceptible to deterioration.

Yikes! Thanks for the heads up. I was vaguely aware of having read something about this somewhere on the forum, but this changes everything! Back to the drawing board; the last thing I want to do is fork out up to £1500 to replace a perfectly good (quality) set of OEM wheels with premium tyres on which have only covered 7,000 miles so far, only to find I've swapped them out for something inferior that won't last.
Is it safe to say that all black, or all silver wheels won't have this problem?
@StayFrosty, I'm probably of a certain age too, and whilst I'm definitely not looking for bling, I really don't much care for all black wheels on a white van. Thing is, I'm not sure that any silver 18s will change the look that much from the current wheel. Platin P69 in silver? Wolfrace X10s?

These are 6 yrs old, two are on their third set of rubber...

Black and still bling, the original 16" Clayton's live in the Garden shed apart from the one serving spare wheel duty.

And they look great
So what's the secret? Avoid driving in the winter? Clean them regularly with some magic formula? Or is it just luck?

Clean them when I clean the van and whack carnauba wax on both wheels and bodywork but no more than that and unfortunately there are a few kerb marks but this will happen whatever the finish.
Be aware that my camper above on 18" Momo wheels has also been lowered on H&R coilovers so part of the way any wheel size looks on a Transporter has to do with how the van hunkers down over the wheel, daylight underneath the van isn't a great look unless you're a swamper.

Thanks. Yes, aware of the lowering part, but that will definitely have to wait until the VW warranty has expired, funds have been replenished, and SWMBO can be convinced that it's absolutely essential for my mental wellbeing :grin bounce: As it is, swapping a perfectly good set of OEM 16s for anything else will still require some finesse....

Clayton's are the Tesco white plimsolls to the Adidas Sambas the cool kids are wearing. :(
This from a lightweight who still can't make his mind up about 20" wheels or bring himself to actually cough up for Judd 311r or Rotiform DTMs.🥸

Damn it! Everytime I look at the van now I'm going to see Tesco white plimsolls 😭 Worse still, I'm going to think every other T6 driver that waves is secretly mocking me 🤬

How about the silver Platins?

Be like me and save a fortune by not changing your wheels each year... it's pretty dreary but saves you buying the wrong wheel because at some stage those Tesco value white plimsolls might be back in fashion and the "wrong wheel🤕" there have been a few, will never be in fashion.
The Platins in a polished face did make me look to see if they made a 20" version but in silver at 18" I reckon they would look like MK1 Audi TT wheels.
On a white van 18" Navis Twin 5s in silver would look good but again so much better lowered too, you could have a go back at me by getting the Rotiform DTMs in 18" as they're only silver or black.
Probably the cheapest way of getting bigger silver wheels and a better handling van past the finance dept. would be to score some 18" VW Amaroks on the forum and see Steve @CRS Performance and tell him you want "proper secksay suspension" on a budget.

There are these Springfields and they're just up the road from me in Preston, but damn, they look remarkably like Claytons don't they? Not sure there would be much point.

Yesterday I was close to pushing the button on the Wolfharts (having convinced/lied to the Finance Department that they were on offer @ £20 a piece, as per forum rules)
Now I'm back to thinking sod it, I'll just wait until the tyres need replacing in a few years - then it will be easier to justify new rims at the same time.

Hers Mine on 18's modified Amarok steels to take VW standard hub caps (just need to get around to lower her a bit)IMG_2913.webp

Springfield are one of my favourite OEM wheel. Clayton looking but that's not bad.

Springfields look nothing like Clayton's in the flesh, that extra 2" makes them look so much sleeker, I like Springfields but would still be worth throwing their spec on "Will they fit.com" to see if they need spacers with that et50 offset, it's not cool to let your wheels hide away at the back of the wheel arches. :geek:

More food for thought! (I knew it was a mistake to put this out there!)
The Platins are ET50 as well.
The Wolfhart Munichs are ET42. I'm looking at the black gloss now wondering..... Or in fact the Dortmund, which was originally my first choice, but Wolfrace have discontinued them in black/polished - still available in gloss black though.

I think Travelling Lite show Dortmund's in the polished and black finish?

Looking to buy a set of Wolfrace Dortmund in black 18" has anyone got a picture ??
Thanks guys
