Should Fuse SC51 be constantly live, it causes a 5 amp drain when van is locked up!

Should SC51 be live when the key is out?

I get different listings for the fuse. Dash panel insert - control unit J285 and in an other diagram it’s down as the steering sensor.

The 5 amp drain is enough to flatten the battery overnight so I need to get to the bottom of it.

All help appreciated.

what model is your van? - the Fuse is probably different on different models/years
And any modifications like dash cams etc

The T6 list shows steering angle sensor.

What happens when you pull the fuse over night?

Fuse tapped?

What aftermarket stuff have you got.?

Post a few pics of your fuse box and battery terminals.

Assuming T6.1

I think the issue is a duff instrument panel. I disconnected it and the fault codes remain the same thus I concluded it is not working. There is power + and - to the connector. Will replace and keep fingers crossed.
A fresh VCDS scan would be helpful

Hi Thanks for input. The fuse is the orange one on the bottom row. It is a 2024 model year.
I took the fuse out last night and the voltage looks very similar down by .2 of a volt to 12.3v.
When I take the fuse out the middle screen on the dash panel, that shows doors open etc, goes blank and trying to start results in turnover and initial run but only for a few seconds as though fuel pump not working. Replace fuse and starts and runs as normal. The fuse box listing c 2020 on the forum gives it as dash panel insert K

It seems to me that power is supposed to comes from T15 relay but should this be live after key out? Is there a live from the ignition switch to T15? Could it be relay t15 not breaking? Is there an ecu set delay on t15 shutdown that may have been overridden when initially converted for disabled use.
At the moment I do not know where to start. I really miss the old style wiring diagrams!

As far as I know I have taken out all the non oe equipment, there are no wires piggy backed on this fuse.

2024, so still under warranty?

Have you had it into VW?

You do need to give the vans a few minutes after locking up for everythign to power down fully/properly

I would spoof the bonnet closed so you can access the main electrics then lock the van go for a cuppa tea and then see what the current draw is after its been left alone for 10-15 mins just to be sure, just make sure the bonnet is showing as closed and the van locks properly

When I was testing it I “shut” bonnet and drivers door, took out all the fuses and monitored amps as I put them back.
Found the fuse causing the problem.
I know I loose battery charge overnight when all locked up so need to try and find the loss on this fuse all other fuses did not increase ampage draw after the first couple of minutes.

Given it is a modified van converted back for normal use VW will not do anything under warrantee and the converters would not even give me a wiring diagram to help me remove the equipment.

Incidentally I have the Paravan gear available if of use to anyone. The only bit missing is the steering column with the gear ring on it- just don’t ask me to wire it back up!
Thanks for help

Hi all finally got an ammeter that is inserted in the negative line so I get a full picture. I have wired it in after the battery monitor i.e. battery side of same.
This confirms a 4 amp draw when fuse 51 is in, compared to a zero draw when it is out (after close down sequence)

The fuse (51) is given as "Dash Panel Insert K" on the most recent fuse box diagram I have, This seems right as pulling the fuse resets the clock in the centre screen. Is there a diagram showing what the Dash Panel insert loom serves?

Does it include the overhead switches and mirror - my mirror seems to be constantly dimed and I cannot help thinking this could be the issue?

What happens when the van goes to sleep?.

You need to ping them bonnet catch so the van thinks it closed.

Them close and lock the van...

It will take around 15mins for the van to power down all the modules...

Does you draw stay on after the van is sleeping?

If fuse 51 is in the draw stays at 4 amps with locks”closed” if 51 is out it reduces to 0 in about 10 minutes and stays there untill I open it up.

Definatly something pulling 4 amps on fuse 51 that is not shutting down.

Have you had a look at the fuse charts in the download section.

To see what's powered from that fuse?

SC51 solely feeds
Dash panel insert -KX2-♦ Control unit in dash panel insert -J285-
If fuse 51 is in the draw stays at 4 amps with locks”closed” if 51 is out it reduces to 0 in about 10 minutes
Have you actually measured the current in the fuse 51 itself - just to verify ithe current is through fuse 51 and not something else being awake because of the dash being there.

the draw stays at 4 amps
That's almost 50 Watts - something is running quite hot. Have you got infrared camera or thermometer?

This might help isolating things, KL30a is supply from Battery, SC51 Fuse and KX2 with related connections.
Hope it helps.
