Retrofit: Power fold mirror with fold on remote lock

Great work there. I still haven't got round to doing mine. Although I bought mine in Nov 2017 it is a 2018 model and I have been told by VW my door modules won't manage the folding mirrors.

Where are those door mirrors with indicator repeaters from?

- 1 off kit including the following(2 off painted mirror covers with LED indicators, 2 off mirror folding motors only & folding mirrors control box)
£260.00

Can i ask where you connected the vw floor lights to?
thanks

Basically both, red warning light and projector, are connected together as follows
+12V from red/white main supply going to door control module
0V from door lock mechanism (black on RHS, black/brown on LHS), these wires bring 0V only when corresponding door is open.
Please see below.

top man thank you

Thanks Robert!
I hope you can answer a question for me?
I have already got power fold mirrors (factory fitted) on my 2011 t5 gp shuttle. I would like to know how i can keep the door mirror control working when i fit a fold on fob unit?

what wires do i need to tap into with the kit due to mine already having power fold all i want is to be able to fold them with the fob, them not move down until i put the key in the ignition or move the door switch?

Any help would be a great, anyone

regards
Patrick

Have you got VCDS?
Have you tried this?
How to Program folding mirrors - Pictogram

To get power fold mirrors with fold on remote lock on T6 there are generally speaking two ways.

OPTION 1 (OEM)
Parts required:
- 2 off power folding mirrors (7E2857508DG & 7E2857507DB)
- 2 off door control modules (7E0959801L & 7E0959802L)
- 5 off pre crimped wire 000979009E
- 1 off 7E1959565K mirror switch with folding
Wiring:
Driver door(2 wires from folding motor to door control unit pins 14 & 15 and 1 wire from folding switch pin 8 to door control unit pin 12)
Passenger door(2 wires from folding motor to door control unit pins 14 & 15)
VCDS Coding:

Cost:
Approximately £600
Functionality:
Mirrors fold when folding switch is in fold position and ignition is ON.
After VCDS coding mirrors fold on remote lock but long press is required.
Unfold when ignition in switched ON.

OPTION 2 (aftermarket)
Parts required:
- 2 off power folding mirrors (7E2857508DG & 7E2857507DB)
or
- 2 off power folding motors only
- 1 off mirror folding control module(made in China, £5 on Ebay)
- 1 off pre crimped wire 000979009E to get signal form door mirror folding switch
- 1 off 7E1959565K mirror switch with folding
Wiring:
T6 folding mirrors.png

VCDS Coding:

None.
Cost:
Approximately £250 - £300
Functionality:
Mirrors fold when folding switch is in fold position and ignition is ON.
Mirrors fold on remote lock.
Mirrors unfold when unlocked or when ignition is switched ON(can be chosen by connecting or not unlocking signal).

Obviously I picked option 2 and used folding motors kit with LED blinkers.
Best functionality and best value for money.;)

Robert have you used relays in your aftermarket above mate???

Yes, I had to add 2 extra automotive relays to be able to use original VW folding switch.

It would be quite easy, with only few relays, to use locking "+12V" pulse to pass and hold "-"signal from original VW folding switch to driver's door module.
But the question is, will the module see it when ignition is OFF?
So, can you fold your mirrors with the switch when ignition is OFF?

Yes Robert, I can fold them but only till a door is opened, then i have to put the key back into the ignition! Boo Hoo

Output signal from the aftermarket unit to fold or unfold both mirrors is approximately 7 second long, and my mirrors fold in approximately 5 seconds and unfold in approximately 2.5 seconds.

Current draw per mirror when it is on the move from one end position to the other end position is 0.25A . And when mirror hits the end position current jumps to 1.55A but only for a fraction of a second. At that point build in the motor electronics cut off the supply while the control module still keeps the output active.

Cheers Robert you've done your homework there! Many thanks will give mine a go. I see there are several locking modules available which one did you go with?

I have used the one provided with the kit.
$_12.jpeg

but I also bought this one separately
s-l1600 (1).jpg

and it has exactly same logic and same functionality. The only difference is cable colours.
In addition this Chinese modules can't be interfaced directly with original VW folding switch, but you could use my idea with 2 extra relays and then problem is solved ;)

Would I be right in thinking that if you use the switch to fold and then turned off the ignition and locked it would those extra relays still be constantly energised? (small battery drain). Appreciate the fact it folds on remote you wouldn't really need to do this, but assume some may.
I think I'm struggling with what the Blue and Yellow wires do, but great work!
