I've just had a long chat with my top fitter, who incidentally, is truly an artisan, and he refuses to even think about modifying th flap, even though he identified the hinges as Grasse ( which we have in abundance at work). So because I love the idea so much, and as I will take ages to get through a full tank of gas, I have decided to just remove the tail light, and pop the flap off, to access the filler when I need to fill up, probably once a year at most. Problem sold with no effort....
