Just got my second set of analysis results. See below. The results are 20k miles apart and both tests are with 6k miles on the oil. I always use genuine VW oil made from unicorn poo and angel dust. Both sets of results suggest a "sooty" engine and that the oil should be changed more frequently than 10k miles, certainly more than the silly 20k long service interval. I do around 8k miles/year, mostly long journeys towing a trailer. Thankfully the engine gets a clean bill of health. 204ps Bi-TDI

Not really a case of tippy toes, more a case of wanting to know what’s going on and avoiding any nasty surprises. I used to work in an industry that used RCM (Routine Condition Monitoring) where oil samples, vibration readings and sound levels were recorded for critical lumps of machinery. It was very accurate at predicting failures, allowing bearings/gearboxes/motors etc. to be swapped or repaired at leisure, rather than whilst in service.

Agreed, I usually change mine every 12 months/8k miles, might drop it to 4k miles. My local Indy charges £120 for oil & filter change using genuine parts, not worth getting my hands dirty for that.

I have one from the Oil Lab. 204 CXEB, looks like I'm seeing the ring/bore wear..... Oil changed every 10K miles for 5W/40 synthetic.

Here it is again, 18 months and only about 10k miles later....

For trivial amusement, here's my 160k mile Cayenne V8 diesel. Same oil as the T6, Quantum LL3 5W/40 fully synthetic. 10K mile oil changes from new.

At the risk of triggering @darkman666, here's a Millers and Oil Lab reports from the same oil sample. A BMW M3 Competition on 0W/30 at 8K miles. They get a running in service at 1200 miles, so this oil had around 7K miles on it, arguably when the thing was still running in. It also runs the oil >100 degrees nearly all of the time. The BMW service interval is 17-18K miles, which is nuts, so I do an intermediate oil change every 8-9K.

Both reports look reasonably accurate to each other, which is what I was hoping to discover.

Again, at the risk of inducing hypertension in @darkie007's parrot, I've just changed the oil in my 992 GT3. Only 4.5K miles, but 3.5 years and several track days old. I've sent a sample off to the Oil Lab and will post the results.




It's a peculiar Mobil 1 0W-40 made just for the Pork GT cars. It's green out of the bottle, like old Duckhams. Looks odd and of course has the Pork tax associated with it.

Your iron level is similarly high to mine. Both CXEB. Interesting that Millers don't comment on the high iron levels.

What oil specifically do you use, as your boron is high too? That's just an additive and friction reducer, so must be oil specific. Just comparing with my Cayenne oil analysis, that has high boron too. I wonder why it's not showing the same in my T6.

This is what I put in the Cayenne & T6, direct from TPS.

same oil, Longlife 3, 5W30. The boron is consistent across the samples, I'm assuming it's the oil additive as you say. I'm happy that both of my samples are very similar with no un-expected spikes. I'll do it again in another couple of years around the 90k mark.
