Loading motorbikes / Enduro bikes into a Kombi?

Hello folks,
Heading to France, Italy and Switzerland later this year to ride some of the TET ( Trans Euro Trail).
I really dont like the idea of sinching down the front wheels into the back of the fronts seats. With T5 van I use a front wheel dock for my bike but that butts up against the bulkhead bracket so the bike isn't pulled into the chair.

Does anyone on here some experience with this or some pics they have seen of a safe setup?

Will be taking a large Adventure bike and my Enduro bike so going to be largish bikes.
Have seen these threads so I have some ideas now, just wondering if any other genius ideas

I am converting my panel van (if it ever turns up From VW!) for track days with my motorbike..........hoping to squeeze in a bed with storage down one side so that I get get some kip, while still managing to have my bike secure (and safe!)
Interested to see what others have done?

Thread 'T6 for transporting motorcycle & road trips'

Dear all,

For about half a year now, we've been looking at vans, mostly VW Transporter (T6) and are considering trading our every day car in for it.

We'd like to use it for:
- Daily commute
- Groceries, shopping, larger purchases
- Road trips & vacations
- Road trips with our motorcycles inside!

Most likely, we'll use a "business" model and perhaps do some interior changes to make it slightly more comfortable to sleep in. (Also due to the rules in our country, a "company" van is a lot more affordable for us, our budget would be a lot larger.) Perhaps we'll install a rooftop bed type...

So far I think this setup using original seat brackets is the neatest but probably quite costly just for a 1 off trip. (Page 41)

Here's my road bike. Not quite what you meant I guess but fits nicely into the back of the van....

I made a similar set up....8' x 4' sheet of 1" ply bolted to floor through rear lashing points and a couple of old seat feet. Fits and removes in minutes and very secure. I only used the plywood to protect my floor but it isn't strictly necessary.

That's great thanks! I've ordered 2 seat feet to mock something up, but I've 2 bikes I need to move for this trip so I will end up with a foot at either side of the van and quite a stretch between them. I'd say 1 bike behind each chair is where they will line up
Also, thinking I will need to stagger them a bit as with wider adv/enduro bars they might get in the way

Easy with one bike but with two it might take a bit of jiggery pokery to get them to fit. If the enduro bike is smaller than adventure bike the bars might fit one over the top of the other or you might have to fit enduro rear end in first. Might be worth using the seat feet setup to fix the biggest bike in position and then put the smaller one in however it will fit, guess you will find all this out when you try and mock something up. Hopefully you will find a set up that enables you to load/unload quickly and easily without the need for millions of straps/bits of foam/cloth packing etc which becomes very tiresome if loading/unloading frequently, with my one bike setup I have a unistrut clamp that goes through the back wheel, takes seconds to bolt up, no straps, no packing, solid. Oh and by the way mines a SWB Kombi......Good luck

The 1 bike situation is ideal and 99% what I do most so I think whatever I knock up will be a copy/clone of the 2 setups using the seat feet mod as I am calling it!
2 bike situation, maybe 2 or 3 times a year but absolutely straps I can handle, having to pillows / blankets etc etc between them is a complete bum ache!

I certainly don't want to be drilling holes through the floor and adding L-track etc. I did some of that in my T5 and it was a pig of a job. Then.... I only used it for 1 particular situation in 4 years!

Some interesting examples and engineering. A couple of points that I am sure have been thought about. That the very useful and well made brackets are well up to supporting a stationary bike just go the extra mile to ensure that the security of the bikes are up to more dynamic forces of motion and emergency braking collision ect. The other is if camping with the bikes inside a confined space and the concern of petrol fumes being ignited mainly from from a cooking stove or some other source of flame.

Absolutely, they will be strapped down to the anchor points for sure, I am not keen on just relying on easy stands etc.

I T boned a ‘next morning’ drink driver that did a U turn in front of me on the way to a moto race in my old T5.1. (Just flesh wounds for the van)

The bike didn’t budge but I used to keep my helmet (in a soft bag) on a shelf behind the drivers seat (no bulkhead in that van). It cracked me right on the back of the head and gave me a two day headache

(I’ve also regularly had a GSA and an enduro bike in a Transporter. Enduro bike in back wheel first helps, and rear rack off the GSA (GS didnt need it removing recently). No chance with seats in there tho)
