Gearbox replacement 5 speed to 6 speed

This is on my list to do at some point, I believe that all you need on the T6 is the gearbox and driveshafts. It should just bolt up and use the existing gear linkages.... probably best to change the clutch as well seeing as your in there. It may have a different gearbox mount to chassis but I’m not 100% on this.

I take it VW used a 6speed box on the 2.0tdi engine? If so what model code is the 6speed gearbox?

I would like to know what the gear ratios are compared with the 5speed box. I find 1st gear to high when towing my heavy trailer and 20" wheels. I could change the wheels, but actually when towing I used to always switch between 5th and 6th lots. Changing 5th to 4th is to much of a drop.

Any answers on this one yet. ? Would deffo be something i would do a few years down the line

It's something I would do one day. But I would like to know the ratios first.
I want a taller top gear and less of a rev drop between the 2 top gears.

Mine is sound and fuel economy. 5th just doesnt seem enough. Love the van its my only bug bear. Budget permitting id have gone Dsg or 6, but hey ill have to get used to it.

So the gear ratios from the links above are shown below based on 2010 Euro 5 TDI

Total ratio including the diff

5Speed
1st 18.64
2nd 9.59
3rd 5.85
4th 4.02
5th 2.92

6Speed
1st 18.08
2nd 9.43
3rd 5.59
4th 3.58
5th 2.68
6th 2.24

1st gear is taller in the 6speed which wont help me with pulling away towing. Both 5th and 6th gear are taller that the top gear on the 5speed which I could live with.

So are the gearbox codes of the Euro5 2010 the same as the Euro5 2016?

edit : I've found the T6 gearbox codes are 7T, PSP (5speed), PSQ(Auto), QWM(5speed manual), PSV(6speed)

6-speed manual gearbox carries a “family” designation of “0A5”. For general information about the gearbox the designation “0A5” is probably more useful. Anyways, the designations mentioned above are the codes when looking for the actual gearbox for a specific vehicle.

Somewhat related post in Euro 6 remap

A document “VW Service Training. Self-study programme 320. 6-speed manual gearbox 0A5. Design and function” – seems to be available at VAG SSP 320 – 6-speed manual gearbox 0A5 | Pdf Free Online
EDIT: another link https://fabione63.it/doc/SSP320 6-speed manual gearbox 0A5.pdf

Will that work on a euro5 t6?

I may have a go at coding before buying a gearbox
Definitely makes sense to have a look into coding possibilities before buying a gearbox. The Euro5 and Euro6 engines are implemented quite differently softwarewise. Probably one main reasons behind that is that their ECU's are from different manufacturers.

Maybe the engine coding might conflict the instrument coding - Is there anything in the instrument module that might cause the coding issues?
Good question - need to have another look... Anyways, in the adaptations nothing obvious there. Probably makes sense also to compare module 17-Instruments software versions (below H03 1107) and codings of a van with 5-speed gearbox and a van with 6-speed.

EDIT: The above is from a van with DSG gearbox so perhaps not relevant here - just to show where the important version codes are.

Yep, good idea. Here are the engine and instrument info from a 2016 Euro 5 102 5 speed:
