Gastore gas sensor - open circuit

I have a Gastore underslung gas tank.

The control / level meter in the van is giving me an open circuit warning light for the gas level sensor. Image attached.

Should the needle be registering part full when it's disconnected from the tank and electrics? (even writing this down makes it sound like a dumb question).

I'm assuming the sensor is broken and this may be the cause of the open circuit warning.

@wbuchan If you contact Propex they will give you the resistance readings across the circuit. (I can't find the info they sent me) They will send out a replacement pretty quick. I ordered off their webstore. I think it was £23 inc VAT & postage.
