What is it with older people, generally in Nissan Juke's. Yaris's, Hyundia's, etc... and there use of front fog lights at all times? I'm not mistaking them for DRL's, they are driving round day and night with fog lights on.

I was getting out of the van in a car park earlier, when a probably 60 something year old woman in a Juke pulled into a space with her dipped headlights and front fog lights on. I politely suggested that this was the case and perhaps she didn't realise. Her reply was that they were her automatic day time headlights and she always turned then on.

By that statement I knew that any attempt to educate her would have been like banging my head against a wall, so smiled and left her to it.

What a terrible waste of electrickery, probably paying for it with her winter fuel allowance!

My brother had a Nova Club. Them were the days. Handbrake turns in Asda carpark and wheel spins so violent, they'd shake the gearstick out of it's hole and your fillings would drop out.

Ha ha, I remember those days! Mate of mine had a club and I had a red SR as my first car, brings back some memories!

Joyriders loved them, easy to steal, nimble and could fit between the bollards that a Police Astra couldn't. And they knew where those bollards were! (I wasn't a joyrider!)

I get the young lads doing it because I guess a fair few of us have been through that stage. I had a pretty new Cavalier SRI 130 in 1989 when I was 19. I wanted everyone know I was 'the kiddy' so fog lights were a way of drawing attention to how cool I was  , but that was a deliberate act.

The reply I got from the woman yesterday suggests that she hasn't got a clue what she's doing with her headlight switch.

I can live with the front ones to be honest but when the rear ones are left on it drives me nuts, usually a genuine mistake but still!

I had this the other evening with a BMW, pitch black and no lights on. Pulled up at a set of lights and wound my window down to let them know and was informed that they were LED headlights! I pointed out that they may well be but they still weren't on. A rummage at the dash and lo and behold lights appeared. Not sure whether the owner thought LED was something to be proud of, stealth or otherwise. Problem is that DRL's give some people the idea thatthere headlights have come on particularly in built up areas, illuminated dashboards don't help either

That's a problem with auto headlights. I leave mine on auto all the time but occasionally I knock the switch to off when I get in. I usually notice early on when the dash isn't lit up.
