Front clunk on braking

Hi,
Have started to get a metallic clunk / thud from the lower drivers side on braking. Initial suspect was a nut or something in the door panel, as have just sound proofed the drivers door. ( Not taken the panel off as yet). Louder on sharper braking, soft thud on soft braking.
Anyone with any ideas suggestions, all gratefully received.
This is a T5 Shuttle LWB Bmi, DSG 132KW with 104K on the clock.

If the noise wasn’t there before the sound deadening and it was straight after then strip the door.
If that isn’t the cause is the van on standard running gear or modified?

Thanks DXX.
I will look at the door in the morning. Having researched the forum as best I can, am now thinking possibly bottom ball joint worn.
Will keep update by the week-end

Having had the wheels off twice, and checked the brakes etc. Am now pretty sure the noise is wear in either the inner bearings or drive shafts. Either way an expense 7 weeks in, I wasn't looking for.

Hi, Well have changed the 1/2 shafts ( Garage said they were really knackered /shot). Did the ball joints at the same time. Not a lot of change from £600. This did solve the juddering under hard acceleration. But not the clunk on braking. Apparently this down to loose or poor disc pads. When braking, the pad slides a couple of mm, giving that clunk. Not possible to detect with the wheels off. Something to live with, as the pads look fairly new.
