First Mot. Failed Big Time.

something wrong there . . . . . at 14k miles?

I've had 3x vans all over 100k and never replaced a drive shaft yet.

or have you got a 4Motion and they are referring to the central front prop-shaft? either way that dont sound right unless it has been damaged by external influences.

T5's had driveshaft problems, very common fault on Transporters. Fairly easy to replace and about £140 ish for the driveshaft

It is a 4motion.
My local garage carried out a service and found oil leaking from the engine, so I took it to the dealer for investigation and they found the problem was that the bell housing is bolted to the engine and a hole goes right through and oil is tracking around the thread of the bolt. So they had to order a special bolt and drop the gear box and seal the threads and put it it all back together and replaced the flywheel (After googling this it is a common fault on DSG boxes) this was on the 19th Jan.
When I put the van in for it's first MOT which is due 16th Feb the garage called and said that it was in a right state and was lucky that the prop shaft hadn'tdrop down which could have been very nasty, which is lucky as I have just got back from a 350 mile trip.
I called the dealer and complained and they said was I accusing them for the problem, I said that they had the prop shaft out not me! Anyway they won't accept that it is their fault but will repair it under warranty.

Ah right, yes, the DSG leaking bolt is a Common issues and needs a new bolt EPOXY resin in.

Dsg Oil Leak

OK, some pics of that front propshaft bearing would be good, not heard of any recent issues.

They will not accept blame, because that equals liability. They’ll claim till blue in the face “yes we were under the van in Jan, no there was nothing wrong with the shaft at that time” and you’ll never prove any different.
At least they are doing it under warranty so that is as close as you are ever going to get.

I have not been near the van since the MOT so could not get any pics.
Yes I will be happy with a free repair, but it would have been very different if that shaft had dropped and flipped the van.

We had the middle prop bearing carrier come loose and lost a bolt causing the propshaft to start banging on the
under body. But that was only after vw had the rear diff out. (,on our previous T5.1 DSG 4MTN) obviously not done back up properly after the Repair.

But never had any other bearing issues. 95k miles.

10 months since new bolts fitted and now leaking again. Called dealer said the van is now out of warranty but is the warranty repair under warranty, no came the answer as I didn't pay for the repair the warranty on it finishes when the van warranty run out! He said that it would not be the bolts as they have been sealed in and it is probably an over spill from when my local garage oil changed it, I said that was 12 months ago! They have asked for all oil to be cleaned off and then see where it is coming from before it tracks all over the place and if it is from the bolts they may be able to do a goodwill repair!
