Faux suede foam lining?

Just looking at faux suede for my roof panels, never used it before, the stuff I’m looking at is four way stretch with 2mm foam backing.
Not sure about this foam backing, is that normal? Does it have any issues when gluing it on?
Is it as easy as carpet, these are flat panels at least. Can you melt fixing holes in it with a soldering iron?
So many questions!

I've found the foam back stuff is more difficult to use, mainly as you only get one go with it.. try pull it away to adjust and it leaves the foam backing behind.

Probably not too bad if the panels are flat, though!
And, yeah.. still ok to use a soldering iron like you would stretch carpet.

Thanks for the info Phil, not sure I like the idea of one chance only, I’m if you can get the suede without the foam back. I’ll do some research.

I watched coastal cushion co on YouTube he used foam backed faux suede to do t6 pillars but peeled the foam off

I used non backed for my A and B pillars and cab headlining. I used backed for the rear roof.
